I want a special dinner for the end of our trip and since we have already done Hoopdevue and the kids loved it, I thought the Spirit of Aloha would be a good choice.
I would like to go to the 5:15 Show...

1. How long is the show?
2. Would it be possible to see the water pageant afterwards?
3. Do you recommend it?

Answers to your questions - Yes, Yes, Yes.

The Spirit of Aloha Show is 2 hours long. We went to the 5:15pm show and were out no later than 7:30pm. The water pageant lighted boat parade will pass by the Polynesian Resort at 9pm. Check the time for magic kingdom fireworks - probably around the same time -- the view of the fireworks from the Polynesian beach is wonderful.... Grab yourself a drink and relax on the beach. You can get drinks from the pool bar if open and from Ohana's in the great ceremonial house. Virgin frozen tropical drinks too.

More about Aloha -- I highly recommend this dinner show but you will get a lot of mixed reviews. I'm not sure why. The food was great - delicious ribs, baked chicken. The salad and coconut bread was delicious too. Lots of Bud beer and wine included. Tropical drinks for an extra charge. OK... the food was not Polynesian other than having roasted pinapple - but I guess they try to suit everyone's tastes. Alternatives for kids (hot dog, PBJ, etc.).

The show was very enjoyable with lots of dancing and audience participation. At one point, all children are invited to the stage to hula dance. It may be boring for some... just have another beer and wait for the next part! I was VERY disappointed that Lilo and Stitch were not part of the show -- I thought they were. OK.... I didn't cry and we saw Lilo and Stitch at Ohana's character breakfast but it would have been a nice addition. Oh.... and there is lots of "eye candy" for men and women.

From a marketing perspective, I guess this show tries to have a little something for everyone.

Tips ---
Book Category 1 seating at the earliest possible time to make a reservation (now 180 days). Within each category, the people who made their reservations the earliest get the better seating (up close). The other consideration with seating is the number in your party. Some of the seating was far back and the view would have been terrible. We were Category 1 and right up front! It made a difference. Seating is pre-assigned. Take this tip seriously. We went to Hoop Dee Doo, the category of seating there didn't seem to be as critical.

Get the photo. When you arrive, they will take your photo and bring it to your table to buy fro $32 incl. tax. Well worth it. It is a side by side of your photo with a photo of the cast from the show -- and the cast photo is great! Don't arrive at the last moment. Get there early and get the photo done before the crowd lines up, then take a walk around the Poly while you are waiting for the show to start.

Stay for the entire show! I saw some people leaving early and they missed the best part - the fire juggler. The fire juggler was awesome.

While there, check out the Polynesian's lobby. Nice waterfalls with great photo opportunities. In addition to the waterfall, the beach and tropical flowers at the Poly provide a nice backgrounds for photos.

We went and loved it. Lots of really hot guys/girls. And the show/story line was really cute. I believe it was about 90 minutes or so for dinner and show. The food was good, and the desert finalle was cool. Our seats werent the greatest, but it was a couple of years ago and we didnt book until last minute, so it was our fault. We got lots of great video and pictures, and lots of laughs when my husband tried to replicate one of the cousins at our hotel pool that night by slapping his bare arms and chest. That only got roars of laughter from our girls.:rotfl:

We went last March and I agree with a previous poster who said they do not understand why this show gets such mixed reviews. We thought the food was excellent and the show is wonderful. It is very different from the Hoop de doo, which we also love, but it is just what I would expect from a luau - lots of great Hawaiian dancing. We all enjoyed the show including our DD who had just turned 5. This will be a must do for us for many trips to come, I think.

You already got some great advice, but wanted to add my 2 cents... we went in August and hadn't been in many years. We had a great time. The food was good and we really enjoyed the show. Liked the wine. LOL!! My husband can't eat chocolate because it gives him a migraine (I know what a bummer!), but they were wonderful and brought him out a fruit plate, I know doesn't sound too good compared with chocolate, but he enjoyed it. The service was excellent. We had category 2 and lucked out with our seats. We were the first table up the stairs on the second level. Great seats. I don't think we will go again for awhile, for us it's not a must-do every trip, but it was a wonderful experience and we all enjoyed it.

Enjoy The Magic!!

The last two Januarys we have gone to luau with another couple. We all have enjoyed it. (We all had been to the luau prior too.)
These last two times we have booked late in the game, and have been seated in the section furthest back. (Cinderella section both of these last times.)
But since we are two couples just out for the night the show is not something we have to pay utmost attention to. It's just part of an enjoyable evening.
All four of us have always been very happy with the service and the food. Oh yeah -- the show too. :rotfl:
The show and food have not changed much. But this last time did seem a little less hokey. Still hokey; but not as bad. Let's face it -- we are there for the food and dancing. Not the boring storyline behind the dancing and music. ;)

I concur with everyone. I think it's a great idea to end off the trip. The food is really good - I even make similar dishes at home now because we enjoyed it so much. We thought the dancing was great. I really don't understand why the Luau gets such mixed reviews. :confused3I agree with getting a category 1 seat. Have a great trip!

I'm assuming that this is outside...is it warm enough to go to the Luau during the first week of February? We were there the same time last year and they had record low temps...it was down to the low 30s overnight. I'm thinking that it might be too cold to be outside at night for 90+ minutes that time of year. Please let me know if you think I'm wrong....we'd really like to go on our upcoming trip.

Thanks!
Lori

If the outdoor temperature reaches a certain point the luau will be cancelled. If possible they will rebook for you. However there is that chance that all that will happen is a refund.
I don't know what the breaking point temperature is. But we lucked out last January. Our weekend night was around the time where many nights were cancelled.
That is the main reason I book to attend the first show during winter months.

My Husband and I went in september. The food was delicious and we enjoyed the show. It was right at 2 hours. Need to get there a half hour early and pick up tickets you can also pick them up at concierge desks I believe

I can't wait. We have this show booked at a level 1 for our trip in January. I have been to WDW many times but never have been to the luau. The weather this past January was pretty cold when we were there, so I am hoping the weather will hold out this January.
