I realize these are totally different experiences.

But for those of you that have done both--which one did you prefer and why?

We are going to do one of them in August. We are DH, ME, DD12 and DS9.

I just can't decide which one! Any help would be great, thanks!

We prefered HDDR,food was more to our taste and enjoyed the slapstick show and songs better.I am glad we have did both and both are great but food at Luau was not to our taste.

My family and I have done both. We first, a few years ago, did the HD review and we loved it! Last year we did the Spirit of Aloha and we enjoyed ourselves. I remember thinking that there was only so much I could eat, and I could not justify the price of how much it was. ( I think if you have a few of the alcoholic drinks that they offer you then you would def. get your money worth, we are not drinkers)The bread, rice, and ribs were good. The show was nice. We did it once and we all agreed that once would be enough for us! If you have never done either before, you really could go with either one, because they are both pleasant experiences. I am glad that we did the both of them, so we can say that we did them, and experience them, but I would do the HdD Review again any day! Hope this helps! Happy Planning!:thumbsup2

We went to both in January. We enjoyed both shows, but if I HAD to only choose one, I'd choose HOOP. Don't miss it-it's a hoot!

Well I know you asked for comments from folks that have done both. I did both many years ago but decided last summer to try the SOA show again. (it had been I think 7 years back)

All I can say is I would not recommend this show for the cost. The food was ok...the show was VERY VERY lacking in much of anything. I even told the concierge at the Poly in our longhouse that it was the worst thing I've ever spent money on at Disney (not cheap at all...). I have at least 20 trips under my belt and have done most everything there at least once so that says alot.

If you do a search on this show you will see many of the same comments just like mine. On that note: I would say HDD would be the way to go!!

enjoy your trip,
Esmerelda

We had fun at both, but I found HDDR to be an overall better experience. The luau was fun but the first part of the show was just a little ho hum for me. The second half of the show is all the traditional dancing which I liked a lot more than the modern songs.

Definately HDDR, we all had a great time, especially the kids, I left the Aloha show wondering if it was worth the money I had spent, but that never crossed my mind leaving HDDR. The kids are begging to go back to that one, but not Aloha.
