Spirit of Aloha Luau

We thought the food was great, but that kind of food is our thing. We love the rice and chicken, and the bread is so YUMYUM. The volcano Lava chocolate things a great I could have eaten 2 or 4 of them things.

Can someone tell me about the beer and wine that comes with the meal. Any idea what the choices are for both and are you limited in a certain number of glasses?

But what did you think of the show. Rate it on a scale of 1 - 10. I'm not as concerned about the food.

OH dear....we saw this show about 7 years ago and as I recall enjoyed it back then.

We decided last summer to give it another try. We had front row seats for the late seating (we got a DVC discount on the 2nd seating). Even with a discount, it was not cheap I'll just say.

We thought the food was about a 3 on a scale of 1 - 10. The show was about a 2 on that same scale. It was so corny I felt like I was at a Barney live show for the intelligence level and the storyline. My two sons 15 and 11 were not impressed at all. The girls were very pretty and the men were handsome but the whole overall story was so very stupid. I told the Poly concierge that the was the only show at Disney I would never recommend to anyone I know. I felt like we wasted a lot of money and a perfectly good evening.

See I am one of those that looks at reviews, keeps them in the back of my head but don't rely on them too much.

Everyone has different opinions and I always say, you don't know until you try. If you don't like it, well then you know. But if you don't try, you might wonder - what if.

I don't care all that much for Boma - it receives raves on here.

People aren't that fond of Chef Mickey's - We really like it, it is hubby's must do.

We also like the luau - as you can see it is pretty mixed but the scales are tipped more towards the negative.

After reading this thread and reviews on Allears, I'm unsure whether this show is worth 2T on free dining. Anybody been recently?

I would say since your not paying for it in the first place, what better time to try it? We are trying it in July catagory 1 seating. I've read the reviews, the good, the bad. My girls, 9 and 11 want to try it. I'm going into it with an open mind. After all, how bad could it be?

Hmmm... after reading the reviews I'm undecided on this. We've attended the luau at the Royal Hawaiian hotel on Waikiki beach. It was fantastic. Everybody had a great time, so I thought we'd do this show since we won't be back to Hawaii anytime soon. Now, I wonder if we will be disappointed and feeling like it wasn't worth the 2 TS credits. Oh, what to do???

If I liked the authentic luau in Hawaii, will I like this too, or will I be let down?

When we stayed at the Royal Hawaiian we too did the luau there. It was fantastic! There in NO comparison. The SOA show is really bad even if you have never been to a luau at all. The show was just plain boring, except for the fire dancer, and the food just nasty. A total waste of time.

Last summer we were at the Polynesian and wanted to embrace all the resort's "elements" or features. As such, we did attend Spirit of Aloha. Just like most everyone else, we found the show both campy/embarassing yet also outstanding. The traditional dancing, with and without fire, is amazing, but the rest (80% of the total show?) is no better than watching an old "Frankie and Anette" beach blanket movie.

The food was not good. As a family of five, usually there's something for everyone when dining at Disney, but we were all hard pressed to enjoy that dining experience.

If we were to once more stay at the Polynesian, we might attend the luau again. However, we would definitely think hard about that choice and would probably take a pass. 'Ohana is our favorite and will easily remain so, in comparison.

Wow...I could not have put this better. I was so sorry that we wasted an entire evening doing this. : ( I could have found so many more fun things or great places to eat. It was the most corny show I have ever been too (and we have seen a lot of shows)....
