We are going to be in the area and able to have one dinner at a resort since we are not entering the Disney parks this trip. There will be four of us as we have two boys (10 and 8) and one is a mildly picky eater, but can usually find something on a typical kid-food menu (mac & cheese, nuggets, ...). I was looking into the Spirit of Aloha dinner show and luau at the Polynesian.

  • Is this something that is a good choice?
  • What is the food like?
  • Is the show entertaining for kids?
  • Is it worth the money?
  • If this is not the best choice, what would you recommend?
  • Also, will we have to pay for parking at MK if we are going to the Polynesian Resort for dinner?

Thanks for your input.

  • Is this something that is a good choice? *really depends, keep reading
  • What is the food like? *the food is "ok" nothing spectacular but good none the less
  • Is the show entertaining for kids? *the show is family oriented, but it tends to be a "grown up" geared type show. in other words besides the dancing young kids won't understand the plot.
  • Is it worth the money? *it's worth it to see it at least once
  • If this is not the best choice, what would you recommend? *maybe 'Ohana
  • Also, will we have to pay for parking at MK if we are going to the Polynesian Resort for dinner? *not sure on this one

What it boils down to is this, if you are going for the entertainment, then it's something to se, if you are going for the food, there are better options.

For dinner shows, I prefer Hoop De Doo WAY more than the Luau. It's OK, bt not the best...the food is good, but not the best....the dessert is well presented, but not great....

The show and the food at HDDR are always fantastic!

I argree with Daisygirl..... The Hoop Dee Do review has much better food and the show is pretty cool. The Luau show itself is good but the food is just so-so.

Thanks for the info. Maybe it might be better to go to Hoop De Doo. I don't know much about that either. It sounds like it might be pretty neat for the kids. I will see what I can find. Thanks again.

Dishud here again....I thought you'd might want to read up on both shows. You can go to www.allear.net go into dining and scroll down (look on your lefthand side) click on the show of your choice and the menu and details will appear. Hope this helps!

My family went there 5 years ago and we LOVED it! We all had a really good time. We are going back in June and I hope the food and the show haven't changed.

Thanks for the link. It had plenty of info. Looking at them, I think the boys would enjoy the Hoop De Doo one better ... although what boy wouldn't have fun watching a guy throw fire around. It seems that HDDR is really exciting as well.

I appreciate the input. Maybe on our next trip we can do the Luau.

Have never been to the Luau, but plan to on go our next trip. As a pp said - what young boy would not love a show featuring flames?!?
Took the grandchildren to HDDR - and the entire family LOVED it!!
BTW - you can view snippets of both on "You Tube". But you certainly won't get a true feel for HDDR - it's something you have to actually be there and see to appreciate...
The humor is geared to both adults & kids - but is WAY corny & not my style. However, watching my grandchildren laugh so hard made me almost wet my pants laughing! (Any other grannies will know what I mean....):rolleyes1

Haven't seen the Luau since 85 I think not really missing it. It's good to see it one time. The HDDR is a really good dinner show and the BYBBQ is second to that.

Our family (all adults) went down with us last year and everyone absolutely loved Spirit of Aloha. Not the best dinner of the trip, LeCellier and California Grill topped it. But, they all like it so much that they want to go back again this year. I have heard many say that the food was not that great, so we didn't expect much, but we were all pleasantly surprised because it was REALLY good. That being said, HDDR would probably be a better choice with kids. We had to decide between the two as well, but the rest of our party thought that HDDR was going to be a little too corny for them and they really liked the atmosphere of the Polynesian resort in general. I have heard that HDDR is GREAT though.
