Does anyone know of a good bag to use for a personal item on Spirit airlines? Their dimension are 16 x 14 x 10 inches is what they allow. They say including wheels and handles, but I have one where the wheels stick out slightly more and it fit in their bin at the airport. Unfortunately it didn't fit under the seat. The flight attendants put in the overhead bin, but they didn't charge me as if fit in their bin at the airport.

We have found amazing flight prices with spirit.....as long as your aren't paying for bag fees for everyone. You can actually fit a lot of clothes in that size bag when you use the vacuum sealing bags to flatten them out. I'm looking for a sturdy bag that I can use for Spirit....as we can get $84 one way flights to Disney on Spirit.

I've considered this

but I don't know if it will fit in the spirit airport bin.

It's 17" not including wheels or handle - so no, it won't fit completely in a 16 x 14 x 10 space.

The measuring bins are for overhead compartment luggage. Consider yourself extremely lucky that you weren't charged. Don't try to beat the system. Work within it. Find a bag that's fully within the limits.

Hi-
You have to look for a bag that says it is for underseat. Mine is from ebags.com. I have never had any problems with this bag. I will try to find the link.

Do you know about this?

Just yesterday, there was an article in the Wall Street Journal about avoiding Spirit fees.

I did know about carry on free, but everything on their site is listed as "sold out". We are planning a trip next year and the current prices listed are $83.89 one way. I can easily fit my stuff in that size bag (I pack light and have access to do laundry in our DVC resort). I just figured at $40 vs $70 it might be worth looking at..or more importantly adding to my Christmas list :)

The Spirit bins are for Carry on sizes AND they have one for personal Item. They have one at the gate, and on at baggage check in so you can see ahead of time before you get slammed for $100 at the gate. Despite what they sell at the airport, Spirits rules state that anyone is free to put their items in the overhead compartment, but when they are full, you will have to pay. Those that do pay, get priority boarding so their stuff is guaranteed to be in the overhead bin. Our last spirit flight had SOOOOO much room in the overheads, because no one pays the fee. It's actually cheaper to check the luggage than carry it on. On top of the extra $ it makes for them....It also helps speed up boarding times as no one is dealing with luggage.

Sorry i can't answer your question, but have you thought about mailing down some stuff?

Yes. We pack a lot of prepackaged foods for the room (cereal boxes, pop tarts, etc) and I've considered it for next summer's trip. But Atlantic city airport is much closer to us than Philly and Spirit has great prices (before the bag fees) that it's worth it to buy a bag that fits under the seat. I'm sure I'll always have to check at least 1 bag, but no sense checking 4 bags if we can get away with 4 under the seat bags. $40 bag pays for itself after 1 trip!
