I booked our flights for our October trip a few weeks ago. Spirit has been charging for checked bags for the last year or so. When I booked my flight, I didn't pre-purchase any bags. DH and I were still planning, and didn't know if we would need 1 or 2 bags for the trip. A few days ago, I got an email from Spirit, informing me that effective June 20, the cost of each checked bag was increasing by $5. That night, I went online, and tried to book my baggage at the lower rate. The website would not allow me to book bags. I tried daily for the next 2 days, and then I started calling Spirit. Apparently, they are aware that their website won't allow bags to be booked online, yet they won't book bags via phone - the company line is "you can only pre-purchase bags online or at the airport." I asked for the lower rate to be gauranteed, but they said they can't do it - I have to book my bags on a non-functional website before midnite tonight to avoid the increased rates. Uugghhh! I am so frustrated!!!!!
