Dh and I are looking into various flights for a July trip to Disneyland and area and was wondering what anyone who has flown Spirit, thought? They seem to offer a good deal right now, and it's non-stop.

I've read good and bad reviews, in fact Dh flew Spirit to Myrtle Beach and had no problems but this is a longer flight.

I'm still looking at other airlines out of both Detroit and Buffalo and also non-stop flights on Air Canada from Toronto.

Experiences with Spirit or other airlines would be greatly appreciated, flying from these locations out to LA.

When I've looked, the only return flight I've seen on Spirit LAX->DTW is a red eye. (It's hard to believe they only schedule one, so maybe I'm not looking hard enough.) Thanks, but no thanks. NWA's fares are often very competitive on DTW-LAX (because so many airlines serve that airport) that I'd bet you can get a close-to-optimal fare at better times. (However, I've noticed that currently their fares for March '05 DTW/LAX are very very high, even with a Saturday stay---about a week ago they jumped from $221 to $500+! I don't know why.)

We have flown Spirit from DTW to Denver and found them to be ontime, courteous and efficient. We have had no problems with them.

We are planning a trip to Disneyland this summer and we are opting to fly from Detroit to Vegas on NWA, hop a SWA from Vegas to Orange Co and then fly NWA from Orange CO back to DTW. For the DTW - Vegas -Orange Co. - Detroit, the fare is costing only $252. Have you looked into flying into Orange co instead of LAX?

We have flown Spirit numerous times--DTW-->MCO, but never to LAX. They always seem to be on time. Yuck with the redeye from LAX, though

I've flown Spirit a few times, enough for me to decide to never fly them again.

I'm average height (slightly less than 6' tall), and I found that I didn't have enough leg room on Spirit to be comfortable. I've also had some issues with luggage handling ... most notably, I got off a plane in Detroit at 3:30pm, the luggage for the whole plane didn't start appearing on the conveyor belt until 5:45pm.

We have flown them a few times. Each was Ok but very crowded. Unless you are a small person I'd stay away from Spritit going to LAX. I can only take that sardine feeling for a couple of hours but that's about it. Have you looked for flights out of Flints Bishop airport ? I can't remember the discount carriers name that flys out of there but I have heard very good things about them.

I second the recommendation for looking into flights out of Flint's Bishop Airport. On occasion, I was able to find a flight out of Flint, through Detroit (on Northwest), that ended up being cheaper than a flight out of Detroit to the same destination.

I have heard the same thing about NW. Go figure. I was thinking there is also another charter or discount carrier like Spirit that flys out of Bishop. Air Tran ??? Memory bank failure ! Also I noticed after I responded that the OP is in Ontario. If you cross at the BlueWater Bridge in sarnia, Flint is an easy drive. Not congested psycho traffic like Detroit. But then if you can handle driveing in Toronto you can drive just about any place ! :earboy2:

we have flown spirit several times (10 or more). Mostly from detroit to las vegas and detroit to orlando. Always great flights. Airline of choice!

We flew with them in October to Disneyworld and the price was great, the service was awesome. Because it was my 5 yr old's bday, I wanted to get a pic with him in the pilot, well not only did the pilot take a pic with my son, he let him sit in the pilot seat in the cockpit and we took more pictures, needless to say we were all thrilled. I was shocked when he offered it with all the security they have nowadys, I guess they didn't think a 5 yr old was much of a threat. We had our 18 month old with us as well so on the way there we upgraded to SpritPlus, but on the way back we could so the lady at the boarding station said the last 2 rows of the plane were empty so we could sit back there if we wanted. Overall, everyone was very accomadating and were great with our kids. We're flying with them in a few weeks with credits from our October trip and then in Dec again. Until they personally giveme a reason to go with someone else, I will stay with them.
