Spirit Airlines and vouchers?

My airfare for April just went down $55 per person (there are 4 of us). I called Spirit and they do offer vouchers, but it seems like I have to cancel my reservation then rebook at the lower rate. I would then be emailed a voucher for the full amount of the original airfare. Does this sound right? Is this how vouchers normally work? So basically I am purchasing 2 sets of airline tickets now, and saving one set for later? That doesn't sound worth it, and if that's the case, I would rather just stick with what I have. I could just kick myself now; DH told me to hold off but I insisted airfare would just keep going up. If anyone has done this through Spirit and my info is incorrect, please let me know!:(

It sounds like a policy set by Spirit. It is not like others, but, they are not the others.

We flew Spirit last year. When the rates went down, I called to see if I could get a credit. They said they would put it on "file" and I would have a year to use it.

We ended up taking Delta for our next trip and Continental for the one after that, so I don't know exactly how it would have turned out.

It sounds like they might have a new policy. Maybe you could ask for a credit instead of a voucher if you plan to fly again soon?

As far as the "others" go, when I booked Delta I asked about their credit policy when fares go down. The Customer Service Rep just laughed.

Well, we'll see what happens. I just sent off an email to see if I really have the policy correct. My original fare really isn't that bad, but who wouldn't want to save over $200 if they could. We normally fly Northwest, so I wouldn't be interested in obtaining the vouchers if I am understanding their policy correcetly. I would much rather just go back to NWA and get my airline miles next time around!

We flew spirit last year. The price went down 70 dollars a ticket one week after I booked the flight.
I called to see if I could get a credit and was told yes, and that it was lucky that I booked over the phone and not online because if if I had booked on line I would not receive a credit. I did use the credit later to book another flight and had no problems.
I don't know if you booked online, but maybe that has something to do with the policy they are telling you.

Good Luck

I booked Spirit in May for our October (1 1/2 weeks to go!) trip. Originally, I booked on their website but when the fares went down, I called them and they gave me a credit per ticket to be used within a 12 month period. I did not have to cancel and rebook.

I just recently booked using the vouchers for another trip next March. While I wasn't able to book using the website in order to use the vouchers, I did call and get the credit per ticket. The call center price was a bit higher than the online price but with the voucher it turned out to be less than booking online. They also told me to continue to watch the flights because if the fare goes down again, we'd be entitled to another credit.

In my experience, it all went very smooth.

You do not have to cancel and rebook. Ask for vouchers for the difference. You have up to a year to use them. So, you won't actually pay less for the trip you already booked, but you will have the opportunity to pay that much less next time (provided you fly in the next 12 months)
Good luck!
