Spiral Binding 65 lb Cardstock

Hi ... Newbie here. Saw examples of the DIY autograph books and everyone's beautiful creations have inspired me to try my hand at making some also!

Can someone please help me? Need your expertise ...

1) Planning on Spiral Binding 65 lb Cardstock into an autograph book.

2) I think the "Maximum" size Spiral Binder size is 30 mm.

3) How many pages of 65 lb Cardstock can I bind if I use the 30 mm Spiral Binder? See NOTE below re: adding photos when we get home. Need to account for the extra thickness caused by photos.

4) NOTE: When book is open, I will use left side for photo & right side for autograph. So ... understand I will need to LEAVE binder space for the extra thickness created by the photos once they are glued in (to be done when we get home after our trip).

5) Therefore, I want to know how many 65 lb cardstock papers I can bind AND still have enough binder room to accommodate photos I add later. Understand that if there are too many pages bound and not enough room is left then the pages will not flip smoothly.

6) Thanks for your help. Apologizing in advance for seeing duplicate of this msg. I also posted this question somewhere else "just in case".

Thanks!!!

My suggestion would be to call up Office Depot or Office Max and ask the printing dept this question.

If they give you a number (like 55) then I would half that number to have room for the pictures you will add later.

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, I already tried (w/ Staples ... I'm from Canada) but didn't get much help. I went in person to Staples and asked to look at samples of lamination, binding etc.

Spent a lot of time with a staff member (I even brought my cardstock for them to see) and eventually left kind of frustrated.

The staff member tried to help but she didn't know the answers to my questions. She called another dept. and they gave her some dimensions re: spiral coil binder but either she heard wrong or was given the wrong dimensions.

She told me not to exceed "x" mm for my stack of cardstock since the coil binder was "y" mm. I told her I was confused since her "x" measurement for the cardstock stack of paper "exceeded" the coil binder measurement for the coil binder. Her reaction was just kind of "Oops". At this point, I just thanked her and left.

I thought I'd have better luck posting my question to the pros at Disigners!

Therefore, if anyone has used spiral coil binders with 65lb cardstock, I would appreciate you advising:

a) What size (ie. what diameter) spiral coil binder you used

b) What type of paper (if not 65 lb cardstock)

c) Approximately how many pages you bound

d) Were you able to open the book once you added photos (ie. did the thickness from adding the photos cause problems when you flipped pages ... did the pages still turn smoothly or did they start to "catch" on each other)?

THANKS again to anyone who is able to help me.

Thanks again to the poster who replied. Appreciate your suggestion and time!
