In the spirit of the differences in the Haunted Mansions between DL and WDW, what are the differences between the Space Mountains in DL and WDW? Before my motion sickness got the better of me, I rode SM at DL probably 100 times. I've only been to WDW once before, a long time ago (try 30 years!) and I remember that Space Mountain ride being more hilly and less wind-y/turn-y than the one at DL. I can do hilly roller coaster rides, but not curvy ones. Can anyone help enlighten me? TIA!

The Space Mountain at WDW is more like the Matterhorn at DL. It is twisty but tere are not as many tight turns. It also does seem like there are more small hills. I also suffer from motion sickness and can not handle the DL Space Mountain any more though I do intend on giving it another fling when it re opens with the newly installed track and effects. I do not remember getting as sick on Space Mt. at WDW but I was queasy after exiting...just not AS bad.

I thought that I read somewhere that SM at DL is closed for renovation? I wonder what they are doing to the ride?

From the Disneyland site:

Space Mountain is currently being redesigned and will re-launch in 2005 as part of the 50th Anniversary of the Disneyland® Resort.

Space Mountian at Disneyland is closed until Nov of 2005. They have torn out all of the old track and are adding a more sturdy foundation and then putting in a new track. The layout will be the same as the old version but it will be a new kind of track that is weightier so needs a more massive foundation. There will be new effects inside though (with the way the current TDA spends money) I don't expect anything spectacular. There will be be a redisigned loading area as well. It will essentially be the same ride on a better trick with different visuals.

SM at WDW pretty much felt like the Matterhorn in the dark--very rough. I prefer the DL version because it's smoother. All the turns are nicely banked, so it's just some nice (mostly) verticle G's and one decent drop. I can't wait to see what the new effects are. It seems like so long since I've been on it. I did like the queing area and the loading area better at WDW, but I'll have to make my final comparison when the DL one finally reopens.

Don't know. I hope so--I love that music. I know the new trains are supposed to be more consistent with actually playing the music. Before it was pretty hit or miss whether the trains speakers (or music system) actually worked.

Can anyone tell me if the new Space Mountain at DL will retain the sound track by Dick Dale?
I have read that the Old Music will be retired and there will be new music to accompany the ride.
