Spinoff - how were you "punished" as a teen?

Up until I was a teen, I would get the "belt." I always hoped my mom would do it, because it didn't hurt near as much as when my dad did it.

As a teen, I was grounded. No phone, no going out, no dating. The usual stuff.

the golden ruler - this ruler was about 3"wide
when i didnt move my hands from my butt she hit my fingers!

and no i cant imagine hitting my DS

One time in 8th grade, I was punished from watching TV the entire school year.

How could they monitor it? Well my dad used to work the overnight/second shift. While we were at school he would unhook the cable boxes (the old Jerrold boxes at the time) and all that before I got home from school.

One other time I got a car, (a 1978 Mustang). My birthday was in November, and I couldn't drive it until my license (obvious rule.. makes sense). See, since I lived in a rural area, there were no local cops, many kids drove around without licenses!

I went to a U2 concert in September and got in huge trouble. I got home like 2 in the morning, and well, I "fudged" some details about the concert .

I was grounded until my birthday. Being in a very rural area, you couldn't do anything.. nothing was going on, and it was very frustrating.

I also was a product of the Physical punishmenst..

Soap in the mouth, hit with a metal hanger (that stings), but the worst was cutting a switch off the forcitha bush in the yard...to this day I have torn out every forcitha bush in my yard....

I once had my stereo taken away from me as a punishment when i was a teenager. Worst thing you could do to me seeing how much i loved the radio and my favourite radio station.

I even wanted to be a radio DJ.

little did my mum know that my friend lent me her walkman :)

When I was young, it was the "belt" also. But I grew fast, and my mom was only 5'3 and dad was 5'6......and I grew to 6' by the time I was 15 or so. It was more funny, seeing my mom looking up at me yelling, and before long we both were laughing. I don't think I ever did anything bad as a teenager to get grounded, etc. and we didn't have phones/TVs in our rooms, so it was real punishment if we were sent there, usually for something minor. (like not doing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom, etc)

My parents tried to tie the punishment to the crime. We did get the wooden spoon when we were little but you had to really really be bad. that stopped before we were teens. I don't really consider that abuse, although I would never do it in today's enviornment. when I was a kid, it was normal and acceptable to smack your kids.

some of my favorites of my mother:

Strike - she would go on strike and stop cooking laundry until we started helping more.

Welfare week - (sorry maybe the term is not politically correct so I apologize for that) - when we did not appreciate our life and "how good we had it" she would declare welfare week. We got nothing, no spending beyond basis. Meals were the cheapest foods she could find with little to no meat (except maybe spam)

Truthfully, I never did that much bad stuff. I rarely got hit, and once I got to be 10 or 11, that stopped entirely too.

Basically, all my parents needed to do was tell me they were dspapointed, and it would ruin me. I really did feel, even as a teenager, that they were great parents, so I really didn't want to disappoint them.

To this day, my parents will say that neither I nor my brother were hard to raise.
