Spinoff: Horrible Halloween Candy

Those little Strawberry Bon Bons (that candy that has a wrapper that looks like a strawberry). Those were immediately tossed in the trash as soon as I got home from trick or treating.

popcorn balls
there was only one house in our entire large trick or treating 'zone' we were allowed to consume popcorn balls from-'grandma' (as she was known to everyone) wrapped them in a specific way so all the parents knew they were her's and safe (and good!) but all others were tossed out (no homemade treats were permitted-and this was back in the '60's cuz parents were paranoid then too).

Candy corn.
uck. I will add candy circus peanuts (the foam rubber looking things shaped like peanuts) and pixie sticks which we liked but 9 times out of 10 they would break inside your trick or treat bag and just make a mess.

oddly, one of the most popular treats we ever gave out (even with the older crowd) were these coupons the local Albertsons did for a few years that entitled the holder to their choice of any single donut.

Anything off brand or homemade, and anything wax. I remember wax vampire teeth were a big thing when I was really young. They had some kind of red liquid filling to simulate blood and were just nasty. Cheap chocolate and other off brand candy just tasted disgusting.

Give me some Reese’s, Snickers, Milky Way, Starburst, Skittles, etc., and I am good to go.

Good N' Plenty. I *loathe* black licorice. My dad loved it though, so those nasty things went to him.
There is only licorice. And it is usually dark brown or black. Licorice is a flavor, not a color. There is no such thing as red licorice etc.

- Fighting the fight to keep licorice (ie 'red licorice') from being appropriated by the mobs.

As a kid I hated. (and still do)

Mary Janes
Bit o Honey
Necco Wafers

I really didn’t want popcorn balls, pretzels, or raisins either, but those weren’t as bad as the three above.

What did you frown upon receiving?
Anything black licorice. I actually like the three candies you don't

Some houses had bowls of individually wrapped hard candies whose flavors were unknown until you took a chance.

And some apples were kind of soft and mealy. Not my preferred type of apple!

I'm not sure there is a candy that I won't eat. Of course I like some might be the last thing I eat but don't know that anything was a toss in the garbage if I got it.

Black Licorice is great - but not something anyone gives out for Halloween unless you want problems

That is an odd one.

Oddest thing we got - and we got it every year - was a large jar of Marshmallow Fluff - maybe 32oz I'm not sure - the guy must have worked for them and had cases of it every year.

I love those!! My grandfather used to love circus peanuts they were so gross.

When i enjoyed making and decorating sugar cookies (many, many years ago) I knew parents wouldn't allow random home-made goodies to be eaten, plus the cookies would break inside the kids' treat bags, so DH and I dressed in costume (he made a very tall and scary Dracula) and took cookies to our friends. And terrorized their kids.
