How long DO they keep items at MK central lost and found?

My dd STILL laments her pin lanyard that was lost or stolen September '07.

It really stunk - she was riding the Barnstormer ride and was SO paranoid that she would lose her lanyard (UGH) that she took it OFF and put it in the little bag in front of the ride's car.

We were about 50 steps away from the ride when she realized she forgot it. She RAN back...nothing. Not in any of the cars, and not turned into a CM.

The WORST PART. On the lanyard she carried a school photo of our former foster daughter whom she LOVES very much but we haven't had contact with since she left our home... So my dd continues to talks about losing her "pins and my picture of J."

I was outraged too - I mean it was a very little girly lanyard taken off of a child's ride. It was obviously not an adult's lanyard. We continued to check central Lost & Found for days, but to no avail...

In this one, you see the picture of her dear foster sister:

When we went to the ToonTown shop (or whatever it's called, lol) across from the Barnstormer to see if they had it there, they took pity on her and gave her a free lanyard (no pins, but it was very nice of them either way!).
Right after that we went to Chef Mickey's for dinner - and here's my dd with the new lanyard and Goofy:

THEN - our waiter saw how sad my dd was and asked her about it. She teared up and told him about her lanyard... He talked to his manager, and they brought my dd a few pins to get her started trading again.

I just wanted to say that I know alot of people are more interested in hearing the stories about bad CMs, but I have to say that your story really touched me and anyone who knows anything about going to Disney with kids knows that stories like this is what makes up alot of Disney magic. This is exactly why I think that there is no better place to take kids in their formative years then on a Disney vacation

A person who would do that will absolutely get it one day. I truly believe in what goes around comes around. I would have turned it in to someone, like I have in the past. It makes me so mad.

Just yesterday my DD had her Vera Bradley wallet stolen at school, with 10.00 in cash in it. They were having Spring Fling and she went to get onto the rock wall and was told to put her things down. Well, there was no one watching their stuff and when she got off, it was gone. I was so mad, but I told her that who ever took it will lose something much more important to them. I believe that it is true!

My dd cried all over again and got up and hugged the waiter. The show of kindness was beautiful.
He said don't thank him, thank the manager. And I pointed out to him - it took him caring enough to even TELL the manager!
He was our hero of the day. And we tipped him WELL.

Oh, that stinks. I'm sorry to hear that happened to your daughter. It's sad to me that someone wouldn't turn it in. Especially with a photo inside! I lose a pair of sunglasses on every trip and they are never turned in.
