Does anyone know if the large numbers of spiders that paper at night on the boats to WL are seasonal? Or are they there year round?

Does anyone have pictures? I would like to see how bad they are. Trying to decode if I can stay at WL in Nov or if we will have to stay at CR.

Thanks

I have stayed at disney 4 of last 5 years in November. I usually take boat from CR to WL to explore. I have not seen any spiders.

Hope that helps.

I have heard the stories, but during our 10 night WL stay, we never encountered a problem (it was July 2012). And I despise spiders....:scared1:

I don't like the boat at wl at night. Last trip we took it back from mk, I went to get a drink from the water fountain on the dock and could not believe the size of the spider in it! :scared1: we now take the 5 minute bus ride happily. Just too many creepy crawlies over there for me at night!

I usually take the boat at least once every visit since I always make time to stop at WL. I have never noticed any spiders. I will also add that most of my trips are late September or December. Cooler weather is likely decreasing the number of critters out.

We stayed at WL Aug. 26th-2nd. We did notice spiders near the windows on the boat from WL to MK, but we didn't notice any on the smaller CR/WL/FW boats. If they are an issue, you can pretty much avoid the boats by using the buses to MK and FW (there's no direct bus from WL to CR, but there's the walking option from MK).

We stayed at the WL in February and I didn't notice any spiders on the boats. The boats were a great way to travel to MK, CR and FW. Even if there were spiders, it wouldn't really matter. The spiders are harmless and mostly concerned with eating bugs, not people. :goodvibes

I have stayed at WL probably 20 times in various times of the year. I've NEVER seen a spider. However, in spring and summer I have been bitten up like you wouldn't believe by bugs as I waited for the boat. This coming weekend will by my first time staying at WL in fall (well.. it's almost fall and it will be the last day of my trip), so we shall see what happens.

Last year, only once, we saw a spider. It was on the window... but on the outside. I do NOT like spiders and moved closer to my husband. I watched the bug all throughout the boat ride. There was a lot of other bugs caught in the spider web so I did have some piece of mind that it would not be looking for me to be it's next meal... :rotfl:

I was on a boat at the contemporary last weekend and my son pointed out the hand sized spider web. I've seen them in the chrome Mickey Mouse statue at the contemporary too.

When we were there in mid-June, after HDDR one night, we took the boat to WL to visit. When we left, it was dark and on the dock to the boat back to CR, there were a lot of spider webs and spiders on the ropes on the dock (don't run your hand along the ropes!). Once on the boat, same thing (along the sides of the boat) -- made my DH sit in the outside seat.

We've seen them, but I would NOT let it keep me from staying at WL again. I think they tend to go on the larger boats, so we personally chose to avoid those, but we didn't hesitate to take the smaller boats during the daytime. At night, we just chose to take the bus. Don't let this keep you from staying at WL.:goodvibes

That really creeps me out. On the dock by the Poly we have seen a number of spiders and spiderwebs. It seems like they are kind of inescapable. It's just something you had to put it up with. :)

It depends on the boat....really. They seem to be on the larger boats and not on the little ones with the blue/white canopy. We have seen them in June, July, and December. We stayed at WL last December and they were everywhere, and the same when we traveled to HDDR this past June. I will NOT sit by the windows!!

How big are these spiders? I know bugs and insects grow big in Florida, so I'm wondering how large they really are. Any pictures?

Note to self: avoid the big boats!
I hate spiders!!

Most of them are just about the size of the tip of a pinky finger, the biggest I've seen on the boats are about the size of a quarter (legs included.) They are normally contained by the windows. The thing that creeps me out is they are hanging over my head. I hate that!

I'll contend with the spiders any day over the refugee bus system. Heck,it's one of the reasons we stay at the WL more often than not. (the boats that is). We love taking them to MK and FW on a regular basis.

With that said, I remember a similar thread as this form over a year ago when we had just come back. I can honestly say I don't think I saw any more spiders or bugs on the boats than I've seen on a bus or monorail. Silly to worry about. :)
