Spiderman Ride - Universal

OK - so, my DH does NOT like coasters. For example, The Barnstormer scared the pants off him . . . and as for Journey to Atlantis in Sea World, he threatened to divorce me three times .

Any way, we didn't so Spidey last time (DD too young, but she's up for it).

Please could someone explain exactly what the ride does because the descriptions seem to allude to it being a simulator ride with a coaster thrown in...... DH is actually thinking about having a go, but before he does thought I'd best check it out cos it'll only be my fault again if it scares him to death

It's definitely not a coaster. It is a simulator, but rather than being fixed to one point and moving from that point, it is on a track.

There are a couple of points where it spins you around a bit, but there are no drops, other than the simulated one at the end. If you closed your eyes there would be no sensation, not like being on a coaster where the dropping sensation seems to be magnified if you close your eyes.

I give him my personal guarantee (worth diddly squat! ) that he'll love it and want to go straight back on.

I'm with Deb on this one Annie.

Spiderman is the most innovative ride I have ever been on. A definite 'must do'.

There is not really much of a 'roller coaster' sensation at all. My mother rode it at 75!

Even though I love coasters - Kraken, Hulk, & Dragons are all must do's in my opinion - I have to confess to closing my eyes during the 'drop' sequence in Spidey the first time we rode it! It's an incredible ride, and everybody should try it at least once. As Deb said, if the simulated drop is a problem simply closing your eyes puts you out of your misery...

Journey To Atlantis is a very different type of ride but not up there with the scariest coasters so I'm not certain if he will take to Spiderman, however, it is SUCH a great attraction! Simulators don't agree with me but this kind of technology ( also used in Dinosaur) is fine for me because the car does actually move along on a track. It really is down to whether he will be able to relax enough to enjoy it and also realises he isn't being taken up or down in reality.
I have a solution Annie - you will just have to ride it first to check it out for him and then ride again with him

I loved the spiderman ride, it was amazing, however it is very intense and you get bumped about quite a bit. I hated the hot blast but you really feel like you're up there with spidey!

Just to say that my DH does not do rollercoasters either, but he loved Spiderman. He did this ride a couple of times and thought it was excellent..

I HATE roller-coasters but LOVED Spiderman. Wouldn't call it a coaster at all - just lots of different and as you said, quite intense, experiences and optical illusions. I am a big scaredy-cat, but can manage Spiderman several times over.

The only thing putting me off was the publicity blurb that talked about rats in the warehouse! (My phobia), but even that was nothing at all, just a few shadows behind plastic sheeting - quite funny really.

Go for it - Spidey needs all the help he can get to wipe those villains out!

We went on as a family. I HATE simulator rides ( have never felt so ill as when I went on Star Tours at DLP), hubby hates any fast ride, eldes DS can cope with BTM but nothing faster, younger DS & DD won't even ride BTM and my mum who.....well hates all of the above (rides not children )

We all LOVED Spiderman. I feel sure that if my whimpish family can cope it anyone can! Usually I have to go on anything remotely scarey on my own

I'm not sure about this one. Back to the future and Star Tours both left me feeling really sick. I have a real phobia of simulators, but love Big Thunder Mountain and Test Track etc....

What do you think?

It's not a simulator in the sense of Back to the Future or Star Tours. It's a car on tracks which moves quite slowly, but does jerk and spin around a fair amount (a better comparision would be Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom in terms of the movement). In addition to the movement around the track there is also synchronised 3-D projections onto various screens around the attraction giving an amazing effect of flying around the city.

My GF turned green on BttF and swore she'd leave me if I made her do it again. However, she loves Spidey and we ride it as often as we can. I say go for it...

Beleive me I too am totally paraniod about simulators - I thought I was going to die after Star Tours and had to go back to the hotel and lie down. Still didn't feel right until the mext day and i have never ridden a simulator since!

I remember posting a thread like this before I rode Spiderman and being really worried about going on it but, as I said, I loved it! Both my sons are like me about simulators and they loved it too. I feel sure that you will love it!

Tony, be reassured. I'm the same as Karen and you - I cannot take simulators at all. Body Wars made me feel very sick indeed and I won't go on BTTF or Star Tours, the Wild Arctic flight..... any of them, but this is a different type of technology and didn't make me feel at all sick - it is intense and jerky, utterly amazing effects, so be prepared to be thrilled, startled and bounced around, but not nauseous!

Hi folks

I have another Spidey query.....

I use a manual wheelchair and know I'll have to transfer if I'm going to go on this ride. (I've looked at the disABILITIES forum without much luck.)

Are the ride vehicles the same as the ones on BTTF, i.e. enclosed with a big, difficult climb in? I did manage BTTF but not without a lot of help and struggling... plus it was ten years ago and I'm not so nimble these days!

I'm hoping the seating will be like Star Tours, but I think it's wishful thinking.

Any help will be appreciated!

Firstly, I agree with everyone who has assured Mrs Dazzle that Mr Dazzle won't feel as though he's on a rollercoaster on Spidey.

Secondly, donnababe, the ride car is not unlike the cars for Dinosaur - not as tricky to get in and out of as BTTF, but not like the Star Tours rows of seats.

Thirdly (sorry), we rode Spiderman for the first time last month and all four of us were really disappointed! We'd been expecting to be amazed and came out very underwhelmed - so we went on again later to see whether we'd all missed something the first time! I thought it was good, but not as good as I'd hoped.

Hilary I know what you mean. We went on Spiderman last year (after all our friends recommended it as 'the best ride in Orlando' - well I'm sorry but I was very disappointed - RnRC is still the best, with ToT next and followed jointly be Mission:Space and Test Track. In fact I enjoyed Universal Studios much better than Islands of Adventure.

Theme parks in the UK leave me bored stiff, at least I'll get the opportunity to try stuff!!!
