My son had a bump on his arm, which I noticed 2 or 3 days ago. He said he though the cat did it, but it didn't look like a cat wound. It basically looked like a big bump with a pimple..I didn't look super close and he said didn't bother him and it didn't hurt. Well tonight he says it hurts a little bit if he tries to lay on it. Here's a picture what do you think?

I'd take him to the doctor in the morning. I can't tell a spider bite from anything else, but if it's getting larger and causing him pain, it needs to be looked at.

looks like it could be... atleast thats how they look after 2 or 3 days.. i'd find out what spiders are in your area, and then if it gets worse after a few more days to a week, go see a doctor.. if its a recluse, definitely dont want to wait too long.

I would take him in to the doctor. I have no idea if it is a spider bite or not, but some bites like the brown recluse are really nasty, and you don't want to wait too long.

I tend to overreact, but I would take him to a medical aid unit. Is it warm to the touch? It could be a boil, which are super nasty and super painful. Have your cats been tested for cat scratch fever? Is there a entrance type wound-like a pin prick looking hole or anything? Please keep us posted!

My son had a spot like that a few years ago while we were on vacation in WDW. After the third day he came out of the shower and showed it to me again. I grabbed his arm to take a look and that amount of pressure caused it to drain. It was yellowish/greenish puss and gross. I called our ped at home and they said to find somewhere to take him. The urgent care doc thought it was some sort of a staff infection but couldn't say what kind since it had drained and he couldn't culture it. He gave us an Rx for a normal antibiotic and a strong one. He said if it wasn't showing serious improvement after two days to start using the stronger antibiotic and to see a doctro when we got home. Luckily he only needed the first antibiotic.

The doctor he saw when we got home and it was almost healed said it was a spider bite. I really think the first doctor was right though.

I second getting it seen ASAP by a doctor. It sounds like it could be a staph infection. Spider bites are common, but staph is more common. It has been 'hitting' heathly young people more and more.

Either way, get it checked!

it could be cellulitus. My daughter gets them from bug bites. The bite gets huge and the area where it is gets hot and swells. If it gets like that she need an Rx but now that we are used to it, as soon as we notice a bite getting bigger, I wash it off with soap and water, add some antibiotic cream and give her Benedryl. We also circle it with a pen and if it gets bigger than a quarter we go to the ped..

I'd see the doctor in the morning. It is probably staph by now. My youngest had cellulitis staph a few months ago and the doctor wanted to put him in the hospital but tried a rocephin shot and marked the margins of the infection with a marker and I had to watch it for 2 days to make sure it didn't get worse. It didn't and we didn't have to stay in the hospital. Your son's looks worse.

it could also just be an ingrown hair. I would have him put a hot compress on it and see what happens. If it does pop:sick: it will make him feel better but I would put antibacterial cream on it and have it checked out JIC

I wouldn't wait. I would take him to urgent care. Trust me. We had a bad experience with a spider bite. At the very least give him some benadryl in case he has a more severe reaction to it. Good luck!

samething happened to me in WDW in May, it was awful!! I could not walk or do anything, mine ended up as a bacteria infection, and the urgent care had to put me on an antibiotic, to which I was allergic to and ended up with a whole new set of problems!! It has been a month now, and it just clearing!

I would be willing to bet serious money that it's staph. Go have it seen ASAP.

People with staph often come in saying they have a "spider bite" because that's what it looks like, although they don't recall the actual incident of being bitten. Whether or not it turns out to be resistant staph (MRSA) or not, he needs antibiotics - the sooner the better.

I thought my daughter had a spider bite in WDW so we had the first aid look at it turned out staph. Please be careful. She was put on strong antibiotics, but it even spread up her nose and she had a hard time breathing.

Ditto on it looking the Staph. Hope I am wrong. (I had it in Nov)

That is EXACTLY what happened to me several years ago...thought I had a spider bite on my forehead, but it got bigger and itched and more swollen as the days wore on. It was a staph infection. I ended up being on 3 different antibiotics, and the doctor said if the last one didn't work within 2 days, I was going to be admitted to the hospital for IV antibiotics.

When it started to go down, the swelling moved down my face, my eye swelled up, then my nose, then my chin. It was so gross, people kept asking me "What is wrong with your face?"

Moral of the story...don't mess around. It is probably staph.

I had MRSA last year. Mine started like a small pimple but got "icky" really quick (you don't want me to be more descriptive than that... trust me!). It took several rounds of antibiotics but thankfully it cleared pretty easily.

OP - do you have an update?

Hi guys! It didn't look too bad this morning, definately not as red. So I took a wait and see approach. After summer school it looks bad so I called and he has an appt first thing in the morning. I'll let you all know tomorrow night what they say.
