Just wanted to let you all know that I took my DD to the doc and it isn't a spider bite! Whew! HOWEVER, the doc did think it was some sort of insect bite, but it has some sort of infection in it. Ugh. He prescribed an antibiotic for her! WOW. I'm so glad I took her in. He said if I hadn't, it probably would have gotten to be twice the size!
:earseek:

I sometimes get spider bites and react really strongly. Usually the area is hard around the actual bite site, as well as red/hot/swollen. Mosquitoes also like me a lot!!

There isn't a lot to do, if she's really uncomfortable or itching, some benedryl might help.

Good luck! Let us know what the Dr. says!

I had two one time. Infected with Staff and Strepp. One on my knee and one up my nose! Lemme tell you shoving bactroban up your nose is not plesant.

But It was purple and swolen and there was puss.

Yes, I was bitten by a brown recluse on my butt once and it was bad.......VERY BAD!!!!! It started out much the same way and you could see the puncture marks in the bump. I saw the spider right after it bit me and went to the Dr. - good thing. I ended up in the hospital with IV antibiotics. Since we caught it early I didn't have tissue necrosis but it was still a horrible infection and caused me ALOT of pain.

Hopefully your daughter was just bitten by an agressive house spider - hugs to you.

They hurt like mad! I've had quite a few. Watch for allergic reaction! Give your DD a hug and spoil her a little.:D

DH had one on his leg a few years ago after camping. We got home on Sat, and he thought he maybe pulled a muscle, since his leg was sore. Sunday......a little worse. I told him I was going to make an appointment to see the Dr on Monday...."No, No, it will be okay...". I made the appt anyway. When he got home from work on Mon, he said he was glad that I had made the appt, since by then, he was having trouble walking...also fever of about 102. He then shows me his leg.............hot, red area about the size of an apple,......Goes to the Dr, they had to drain it and put him on antibiotics. Two days later, still has fever, still is having problems walking. Back to Dr. for another drainage and changed antibiotics. He was back and forth for the rest of the week, and Dr told him that if it wasn't better in another day or two (now was past following weekend), he would put him in hospital on IV antibiotics. DH.."I think it will get better ".......just like him to be so stubborn. Finally went away, but 3 weeks later, still had a small red lump on his leg. Drs said it would go away on its own, and it has, but it took a long time.

I am glad your DD is seeing someone right away.

 to her and PD to get rid of "whatever" soon

Of course I had to do a search online for spider bites, and found photos of a bite by a brown recluse. OMG! So now, even though I'm pretty sure that wasn't the spider that bit her, it's freaking me out. Glad I'm taking her in!

I got one on my stomach of all places, from going into a gross vault to engineer something at my old job:rolleyes: It felt very hot to the touch for several days, and it did hurt a bit. It went away on it's own eventually, though.

I had one once that lasted for months. It was the worst itch I have ever had, in addition to the pain and swelling.

I work in a pediatric office. I'm glad that you are taking your daughter to the doctor. It sounds like a spider bite just might be the cause. Whatever it is, it sounds like it needs antibiotics.

I'm glad she's ok :) Hopefully it doesn't hurt too bad. Poor kiddo
:(

I'm terrified of spiders. Luckily we don't have too many poisonous ones here in new england- just black widows. DH found several last week in the back yard. Needless to say, I'm now scared of my backyard. no yardwork for me! ;)

Very Dangerous!::yes:: I know of 2 people who have been bitten by this kind of spider. One was a 68 year old woman, and she had NO idea a Spider had bitten her.....her arm was inflamed and turned BLACK and that is when she went to the Hospital....a friend of mines DD got bit in Celebration of all places, about 8 years back when they were looking at Houses there.:o Needless to say, they caught it in time, and she was treated properly.
