SPG Amex Card

Has anyone recieved or applied for a Amex/Sheraton SPG card. The old one that was affiliated with M/C has ceased since March 1'st. I got an application form via e-mail for the new one. You will get 11,000 points and the first year is free with a $120.00 annual fee after that. Still wish that they would have stayed the same . It was ranked as one of the top 2 reward cards.

I haven't, but I am tempted. From what I have read on other forums it is not near as good as the old MC SPG though(don't know; never had one).

I was looking to replace my Alaska airlines MC, as we're finding it is not as good as it was and limited flights from Vancouver. I also do all my major groceries at Costco (we live a block away) and I was losing earning opportunites as they don't take MC. I just got an American Express Aeroplan card which offered a 20,000 aeroplan sign up bonus (or 15,000 and 5,000 after spending $1000 in 3 months-something like that). Those bonus points at least cover the fee (even if I decide in the end to use them for gift cards) It is $120 a year also and no free first year, so I kind of wish I had waited and got the SPG now. A free first year is good, and from what I have heard SPG points can be transferred into most other mile programs, and to a spouse.

Now I feel I am tied to Aeroplan, just like I was tied to Alaska Air before. I wonder if I should get the SPG one also, and cancel one of the cards after the first year.

I had the SPG mastercard also. Loved it and used the reward pts a few times at the Sheraton airport location and the sheraton safari with split stays on property. I was really sad to see this go.
But I won't pay 120 in annual dues and will be searching for a different rewards card.
SPG MC was supposed to be contacting us with a new card option and we never did hear from them.

Did you not get the new M/C Travel Rewards Elite Platinum Plus CC. It replaced the SPG card. You get 5,000 points immediately. It gives you 1 point per dollar spent and it looks like it is the same point usage for Sheraton hotels .... ie 10,000 points for a good hotel....but you can use the points for other hotels, airfare etc. Try the new SPG amex for a year. First year is free and you get 11,000 points.

No, I did not get any info or anything. They said more info would come but none did. Sounds good -- I need to look into it.
