spending your b-day at wdw

we are planning to go to wdw 09/2009 (hopefully our first trip as DVC'ers) and are planning to spend my DD 9th birthday there. I'm just curious what other people have done on their b-dy to make it special. I read on another post they have done the illuminations cruise or the wishes cruise what type of stuff to do they do for the b-day girl/boy? I was thinking of doing dinner ressies @ 1900 park fare but would like to hear about other things we can do. anybody?

This is a bit of a hot topic here (and other sites) so I'm not trying ot be debbie downer only forewarning.

Many people post on other forums (we're alot nicer here at dvc. ) that they are mad, disappointed, disgusted, fill in the blank because in the past evidently Disney made a big deal out of birthdays and nowadays maybe due to cut backs that may not be as true.

You still can get a birthday button for your dd but outside of that Disney does not do any thing. There are many, many things you can plan (and of course pay for) to celebrate.
We have done the illuminations cruise and loved it. My son did not want a birthday cake (by the way, there is a cake thread here on the dis that you can see all different types of cakes) so we celebrate with a "kitchen sink" at Beaches & cream.

I'm thinking just being at disney for his birthday will make it magical. Enjoy

We're at WDW every other year for our daughters' birthdays. In 2002, they turned 7 and 5,so we did a character breakfast at Cinderella's for each girl and then had a cake after lunch in or room. I usually get an ice cream cake at the Carvel (I think it's near Publix??). In 2004 and 2006, I let the girls choose a special meal or activity for their birthday. One chose the Hoop de Doo and the other chose Prime Time in 2004 and they chose the Family Magic Tour and the Pirate Cruise in 2006. This year, they'll turn 13 and 11 during our trip. When I asked my older dd what she wanted to do for her birthday, she said, "Isn't going on a cruise enough?" (We'll be on the Wonder on her birthday.) We don't have any special plans for them yet this year, but I will still get a cake for each of them. We also usually let them choose a short list of their favorite rides on their birthday.

Off topic and I am sorry, but where is Beaches and Cream? DH and DS2 are drooling. I am lactose intolerant and just looking at it makes me ill - but oh so jealous...lol.
PS. I just celebrated my 30th bday at Epcot a week ago. Other than the button, Disney didn't do anything special for me to celebrate. I did hear "happy birthday Nicole" about 50 times from CM's and all the bday celebrators at Biergarten had Happy Birthday sung to them in German after hearing our names called out. I don't think I would expect much from them, but you can plan on all sorts of things on your own.

Beaches & creams is an old fashion Ice cream shop located at the Y& BC resort. It is right in front of stromalong bay pool. It is great but it doesn't take adr's so as you can imagine during prime eating hours (lunch time & dinner) there can be up to an hour wait.
"The kitchen sing" is literally 2 gallons of ice cream (you can mix it up, any flavors) pound cake, brownies, whip cream and just about every imaginable topping. It is a meal really, not a dessert toward the end though it does turn into a melting mess because we really could not finish the thing, it was alot of fun though.

We've been in WDW for my DD's b-days for the past 2 years.

On her 13th b-day:

*we had breakfast at CRT
*she had a manicure at the Periwigs salon (at Beach Club)
*dinner in Norway followed by a Illuminations Celebration cruise with our friends.

The cruise was great. The boat was decorated & I had preordered a b-day cake which was delivered to the boat prior to our arrival.

totally wasnt look for any freebies.. just wanted to do a meal or evening for a 9 yr old's birthday and hopefully the odd "Happy Birthday" from some CM's That's all

I would say that is a pretty nice gift from Disney, but it is only good on the day of your birthday and only in 2009!

We have always gotten balloons and signed character photos in our resort room on our birthdays and anniversary. Is Disney no longer doing this?

We're 50/50 on this. Nov '07 for my youngest b-day he got ballons in the room at the BCV's. This past May we celebrated my nieces b-day and they did not give her ballons or a picture.

this is actually next year's celebration "theme." it is going to be a pretty big deal. for one thing, anybody gets free park admission on their birthday, or if they are a passholder a "magic fastpass" or gift card. i think there will be lots of pixie dust. you canalways order cakes. resorts will sometimes leave things. they will have birthday parties at neverland ckub at polly/.

We did our DS 6th bday in December. He wanted one of those Disney birthday hats so between that and his pin everyone knew it was his birthday. We also went to the Hoop Dee Doo Revue that night and he was picked to be the Texas Ranger (the highlight of the trip for him). Also when we got back to the room that night there was birthday baloons and an autographed picture from Mickey.
