Hello all, heading to WDW for the first time in over 10 years and staying at Pop Century 6/8-6/15 for our Honeymoon. My question is when you check in can you set a limit on room charges? We have tickets and the dining plan already so I just want to be sure we stay within our budget for souvenirs. I've seen conflicting reports about this. If you've visited recently can you account for this?

I don't think you can (haven't tried, in all honesty) but if you are concerned, I would purchase Disney GCs in the amount you want to spend, and then you can pay off your charges at the end of the day at the hotel front desk. We did that last trip and had a $0 balance on check out. It's a good way to limit yourself.

You can but don't rely on it. Sometimes it gets set up perfectly and works and sometimes it doesn't.

The hotels have limit charges depending on category I believe it is $500 for value, $1000 for moderate and either $1500-2000 for deluxe. Now this limits only mean that once you reach that point they will charge it to your credit card on file. I am not sure they can restrict the to a certain amount. I think you either have charging privileges leaving a credit card on file or not. You can use a debit card but they will put a hold on your money until check out.

If you are worried about the souvenirs just get a Disney gc and put the money there. Use that to pay for souvenirs that way you can track the money. You could still charge tips to your mb.

I 2nd the Disney gift card. It's SO easy to lose track of how much you're charging to a magic band. (Old school option: envelope. Put the cash you are willing to spend on souvenirs in an envelope. Write "souvenirs" on the outside. Put in purse during trip & only pay out of the envelope for souvenirs.)

When we stayed at a moderate, the "limit" was still $500 but I think you could change it if you wanted. And it wasn't really a limit, it was just the point at which they would run your card but you could keep charging to your band. So you COULD ring up to your credit limit and it would just be in $500 increments.

I second the gift cards idea. It is VERY easy to lose track on the magic band. You don't think much about swiping a $4 snack and then when you get home and your totaling your amounts it's easy to forget. Add that up over a week and it's just too easy to lose track. This is especially true if you do EPCOT events.

We've never had trouble with the magic band, but I do tend to get a print out from the front desk every 2-3 days to keep track.

I don't know why they charged you at $500 at a moderate but limit at a moderate is $1000 and it has been for a while. We were at CSR in April we had about $900 in charges and nothing was charge to my cc and I didn't go pay it down with gc until the last night.

We usually don't go to pay until last night before check out. Our stays at values has never been long enough to reach the charging limits.

The limits used to be $500 at a value, $1000 at a mod and $1500 at a deluxe, but I believe those limits were recently raised. Once you've reached whatever amount for your resort category, they charge your credit card and 'reset' your balance to $0.

OP, if you're that concerned about not going over a certain money amount, don't use the magicbands to charge. You can either purchase Disney giftcards to use or use only cash.
