after reading afew posts, i am wondrirng if we should carry all of our cash or put most of it our checking account and use our check card instead of carrying around cash.....
how do you all do it?
going to do a poll :)

thanks

We put everything on room card (but also carry debit card too) everyday at park...there are only a few spots you can not use the room card/debit...and it is some of the food carts/stands...there are other choices available:p

i should add our info....we are hoping to save/ have $1500 for food, spending and misc.
we do have a room credit at cr of $300 so that will cover our food and sovies at MK, and food at chef mickeys, and room service at CR.

We use traveler's checks and start with just a little bit of cash. Each day we will take out enough TC's for the day and have a little bit of cash on hand. We always have charging privileges, as well, just in case we find ourselves short on funds for the day but that very seldom happens.

We're planning to put most of it on the room charge and pay it off when we leave. Other than that, we'll have a small amount of cash or travelers' checks for things that don't take room charge, although I think most places do now. I don't like to carry cash, room charge is easier for us, but I will have to check our receipts and printout every day to make sure we're in budget.

For a 5 night trip, I might bring about $200 cash, just for emergencies, tolls, snack carts, arcade, and a meal each way on the drive. Every other charge goes on my room and I pay with my Disney VISA so my current trip can help pay for my next.

I don't use credit cards and don't like to use the room charge feature (I authorize $100 for emergencies--such as forgetting my cash or TCs).

I carry about $150 to $200 in cash initially, including small bills for gratuities and quarters for tolls and laundry (I usually pack one or two rolls of quarters, depending on the length of the trip), with the remainder in traveler's cheques. I also carry my debit card, just in case I'm stranded somewhere and need to get home! Haven't had to use it for WDW trips yet!

We will be depositing our travlers checks to our room account and use the room key to charge. We also carry $10-$20 in small bills for gratutities and any small vendors that dont accept the card (we only found 1 last year that didnt).

elfbo-Have you ever had a credit on your acct. at the end of your trip? If so, how did they handle that? Did you receive cash back upon check out?

Nightly can we pay off what we have charged on our room card during the day? Do we have to wait until we check out to pay on it?

You can pay off the account every night if you want to, just go to the front desk and get a current list of charges.

If you have a credit at the end of the trip then you cant do the fast check out, you have to go to the front desk to check out. Depnding upon how the credit was paid for with the account is how you get the money back. We havent done travlers checks before only a regular check, and we got a check back at the end of the trip for any money left over. Im not sure if travelers checks would give you a cash back, or a check back. Either way, you would get your money back.

You will need cash for the food vender carts, most do not accept credit cards or room keys. I figure $20 a day for these things, other then that I use credit.

We've carried all cash in the past, but, the next time we go, we'll probably try the American Express travel card and carry a little cash for incidentals. We also have some Disney Dollars as well.

We've done all three. I recommend cash only. Then you stay within your budget. On our last trip I did use the room charge for $$ souvenirs, a snow globe, a tshirt etc. Then I laid that money aside in our room for paying it off later.

We carried travellers cheques with us everywhere except for our PS meals. Then we used the good old VISA. They excepted the TC everywhere even the carts in the middle of the park and Casey's counter service. When the TC were done we then used our cash. Now we took 200.00 cash with us and about 250.00 in TC. Now we did this because being from Canada if we lost, or got them stollen our TC then we could get them back at any bank. We then left all the rest of the money in the safe in our room. I was a little nervous about that but husband said it was ok because he checked the wall and it was solid for the safe.

I have always used TC. After reading this post, I'm re-thinking this whole thing. I like TC but hate writing them out. So I'm thinking either bankcard or disney room card. Although if I use bankcard or disney room card could lead to trouble if I'm not careful to deduct each purchase. Decisions! Decisions!

If you put the TC on your room account then you can use your room card up to that amount. That way you dont have to keep hundreds of dollars in your room, but you have access to the money with the key card. Also, I think It wont let you charge more than how much cash/TC's you put on your acct at first, but Im not sure about that.

We usually take cash for food and souvenirs so the credit card bill isn't any bigger (we already have room and ticket charges on CC) and you know where you stand when the trip is over.
