I got my first speeding ticket today. In Mississippi, Lincon County Hwy 84. We had gone up to Mississippi School of Arts to have lunch and spend time with my oldest Son. We had just gotten on Hwy 84 went over a hill and BAM!!! There he was, MHP blue lights come on, I tell DW he got me! Sure enought he pulls me over, tells me I was doing 70 in a 55. Hell I knew that I had just set the cruise control. Oh well, Can't wait to see how much this is going to cost me.:lmao:

My DH can sympathize with you. He got nabbed by Alabama Hwy Patrol last month going 75 in 55 zone. DH actually thought that since it was a state road that he sould be able to go that fast. I asked him what planet he was from? that ticket cost him $201  Thanks,DH (and I use the term loosely)

:eek:Sorry about that. In Mississippi the MHP can give you a ticket on a county road. I know a lady that got one , she was doing 70mph in a posted 45 mph it was like $300. I was thinking mine might be like $180 to $200. There goes my Disney gas money. :scared1:

I'll let you know when I fight mine next month. ;)

My dad got one in california. He was going 80 in a 65MPH zone.
If you think $200 is bad his was.....

$415!!!!!...yes...415....its insane

I'm not fighting it. I did think it was a 65mph zone, they change the speed limit on this High way all over from 65 to 55 (speed trap) and this little part I never travel, I just wanted to go another way. Wish I had gone the old way.

:scared1: :scared1:$415 :scared1: :scared1: I'll DIE if its that much. But I'll tell you one thing, if you see me on the High way I'll be the one doing the SPEED LIMIT. :lmao:

It will probably be about $200.
Geesh i always thought 65 was a suggestion not a rule LOL

My husband got his first ticket in Novemeber on the border of NC and VA. It switches from 60 to 70 right there and my husband was speeding up for the change. Well he got caught 2 miles from the border...soo close to escape lol

Anyways he was really close because he was going 75 in a 60 and in the state of VA going 20 miles over you automatically can get reckless driving in addition to speeding.

His ticket was $120 which I paid the day before our anniversary. I told him happy anniversary and put the receipt in the card;)

hahah...that is great.
I could so see my mom doign that to my dad.

I hear what your sayign about the reckless driving in VA. We used to live in VA and when my brotehr was 18 he got pulled over for speeding going 19 MPH over the speed limit. As my mom told him, he better be greatful that he wasnt going 20 miles over or his butt would be in a sling.

The fine you will get is only the first part thats going to cost you.
After your insurance company finds out you may be faced with much higher monthly premiums. Thats why people usually try to get them reduced.

ps: get a radar detector ;)

PS: slow down. There's a reason for speed limits and the higher fines are because lower fines aren't deterring people.

I paid a little over $400 for the ticket I got a few months ago for speeding. I took that over the $90 and 2 points that it was going to be. Those points in NJ will increase insurance rates a lot. We already pay one of the highest rates in the country.

yeah my dad had to pay the $415 fine AND take a driving course in order to get the points taken off.

PS Some states it is against the law to use a radar detector in your car. Instead, just watch the speed limits...

Those only work if the LEO is sitting there with his radar running....alot of the time they turn it off and on...it will be off and when they see a car comming they switch it on...then it nabs you:thumbsup2 Try just slowing down.

Ah yes...reckless driving charges in Virginia. Do you know that they STAY on your record for several years - as if they were a felony, even IF it drops off of your insurance?

hahah...that is great.

See my above post...And if you feel you *must* speed, DON'T DO 20 MILES OVER in Virginia, that ticket will be the gift that keeps on giving and giving and *giving*.

Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia and many other states/jurisdictions.

The points might have been taken off his insurance and might have been taken off his record BUT I think that the 'conviction' stays on his file at your state's MVA.

agnes!

I hadn't ever been pulled over for anything before last October...

I was on my way back from a breakfast meeting and took a route that I had never taken before. I came down a hill and stopped at the stop sign to cross a divided highway. I turned onto the divided highway and was about to make another turn when I noticed a cop behind me. He was right on my butt for like a mile or two and then his lights came on. He pulled me over and stated I didn't come to a complete stop at the stop sign and then discovered that I hadn't switched my Illinois plates over to Florida plates (the lady at the clerks office stated that if I waited for a few months I would save like $50 and not have to pay taxes since our car was new and she said I wouldn't get in any trouble for waiting). The cop gave me a huge hassle and said he could take me to jail right now and have my car towed because it is a felony not to change your plates over within 10 days of establishing residency in Florida. He gave me a warning on the plates and said if I didn't get them changed over and he saw me driving around he would take me to jail the next time. He gave me a ticket for "failure to obey a traffic sign"....$141 and 4 points on my license. I took the driving course which cost $30 and the points disappeared off my record.

I respect all law enforcement officers, but I feel this guy could have handled it way better. I was scared the entire time because I had never been in that situation before..EVER. Threatening to take me to jail and that I'd have a felony and my car towed was way over the line. I now make sure that I come to a complete stop at every stop sign, but I think if he would have given me a written warning I would have learned my lesson just the same.

Thats right there is a reason for speed limits... they are revenue generators.

The state has fought with some communities trying to get them to raise the speed limits on certain roads because the state says they are rated for a higher speed but the communties refuse...why?....cause tickets generate great deal of revenue. For some bedroom communities this a main source of revenue.

There are roads here in Ohio that are rated for 55mph, in Michigan the same type of road would be 65mph. In Michigan on some roads its 70mph. Why discrepency? Does it make sense that when I hit the border that I can either speed up or that I have to slow down even the road is exactly the same?
