we were planning the week before Christmas (both of us teachers) for 5 days four nights. online priced about 2900 (POR, PH, DP) for 2 adults, 3 children (ages 6, 4, 4) with new Visa plan same type trip in early june runs about 2100. huge savings. but last year, late, they offered free dining until dec. 24 so we were able to get it and saved us a ton. what are chances (i know it is strictly speculation) of discounts for dec. 18-24 this year? this will probably be last year the school calendar works out for us to get a whole week before Christmas for a few years. we would like the Christmas trip but $800 is a lot of money! we need to make a decision asap! also concerned about heat affecting our time in the parks.
any advice or info greatly appreciated!

I think you are asking if a discount will be available for the week before Christmas right??

Unfortunately we can't be sure, but I think there will be some kind of discount. The 2900 you quoted is full rack rate right? If so, I think there will be something at that time. Not sure what it will be though.

The discount for your kids all being free I think, is significant and won't compare to free dining in the Christmas season. If my kids were all under 9 right now, I would be going with that. I mean to get free tickets is nice for three kids.

Early June isn't bad with heat in my opinion, but I am from Florida! It is so nice to go to Disney and pack just shorts and bathing suits! And you definitely will be able to swim. At Christmas time it is so pretty with the decorations but rarely can we swim and we have to pack so much stuff for layers!

Hard choice, but I bet they will have some kind of discount. Good luck deciding!

PS have you ever looked into the Swan/Dolphin with your teacher discount. The rooms are large and can fit the five of you comfortably and you can't beat the location! OF course you probably would do better with the free deal for the kids!

You have to remember that discounts are done to fill resort rooms. Unfortunately, they never have trouble filling rooms between Christmas and New Year's.

I think last year was a fluke with the economy still lagging a bit. We have already seen signs that the economy is coming back - around my area, people are definately starting to eat out again - a lot!

I would say hoping for a deep discount like free dining this year, especially around busy holidays, is going to be pretty slim.

Oh and early June may not be crowded this year since the entire North east coast is going to school until JULY! The blizzards up here have wreaked havoc on our school schedules.

Are you going first week? Not sure if that is important to you or not, but that is Gay week. Not sure if the crowds are better or worse during that time.

we are planning on june7-11 so we will miss gay day weekend (it ends on monday june7 but i think most will be gone by then).
we are from alabama so we will be somewhat used to the heat.
last year at Christmas we had reservations at Dolphin and were going to buy tickets from broker and have no dining plan, then in late fall they offered the free dining through dec. 24. we were able to switch to POR with dining for only slightly more than dolphin with no dining.
dining is a big plus for us since our kids still really, really enjoy the character interaction at the buffets. just better for us than standing in line waiting to get a quick photo with one. there are a lot of plusses to summer this time but having the whole week before Christmas off for us (both teachers, different systems, almost never same spring break) is also a big attraction.
the crowd levels being lower than normal in june would be a bonus for us. how many systems up north will be going later than early june? we even in alabama have had a couple of snow/ice days.
any mory opinions greatly appreciated!

Our governor in DE made a few of the days with snow - a "snow emergency day". We had three.

This accomplishes two things; first of all, you can get federal funding from the government for the clean-up, and you can allow the school districts to "forgive" those days and not have to make them up.

So we might not be going that far over the calendar here in DE.

Do yo have AAA? You may be able to get a AAA rate now and then if a discount is offered, I believe they let yo change. Just start with the longest reservation, they have told me.
Value resorts will save quite a bit, we like POP Century.

Interesting... latest PINs for room discounts have only gone till Dec. 19th. If rooms don't get filled up, you'll see an offer like this late August, if at all.

Plan on rack rate, then take what comes out as a bouns.
