OK - I'm a definite newbie. My family and I are planning our 1st September trip. Looking at the official calender on disneyworld it looks like SpectroMagic is scheduled for 8:00pm on Sept 22nd? Is this a mistake - cause Wishes is listed at the same time?

Also, is this a MUST SEE?

It has to be a mistake, I think. Afterall, the parade goes down Main Street and that's also the prime viewing location for the fireworks.

The Thursday before and after did not have Spectro, only Wishes at 8:00. The Monday before and after had Spectro at 8:00 and Wishes at 9:00. So either no Spectro or Spectro with Wishes at 9:00.

Edit - The DIS hours show no Spectro, Wishes at 8:00.

on nights that MK is playing both spectromagic and wishes, spectromagic is done first. it is definitely a must see. it's my favorite parade. all the lights, the colors, the floats, the characters is just so wonderful to see. depending on where you are at in the parade route, as soon as the parade finishes, people situate themselves at a spot to watch wishes. you can't really miss wishes no matter where you stand because the fireworks are shot up so high. a good spot to watch both shows is on main street. but you have to find a good spot around 6 o'clock the latest! if you get yourself a curb seat, you're in good shape to see both shows. that's what rob and i did the last time and enjoyed both shows without really moving anywhere.
