Our friends are joining us on the Thanksgiving 2005 Magic. Their DD12 will be sailing with us, and she has been battling leukemia for 2 years. Does DCL do anything special for these kids when they sail?
Does anyone know if they have any type of program that would help them get a good rate? This cruise will be to hopefully celebrate the end of two years of chemo. And I thought it would be great if there were something special DCL does for these families. They really have been through hell.

If anyone knows who I should call, or has info, please PM or email me.

thanks!

When we booked to sail they knew Matt was sick but hadn't said they were going to do anything or give me a special rate...in fact when we cancelled Matt off the reservation we were charged whatever it was at the time for not cancelling before 45 days because his wasa preexisiting condition (cancer)!! Even though he died it didn't matter, we were still charged the fee.
If she hadn't had a make a wish trip yet then perhaps you could contact them to make that her wish.

She actually did a Make a Wish trip on the Big Red Boat several years ago. She went through treatment when she was 4. Then had five years remission. Then on they found cancer cells again, and she has been going through treatment for the past 20 months. So this is a second round for her. She is really doing well.
I was her soccer coach before she relapsed, and her parents are good friends.
Hard to believ they charged you in your case. I guess it is a business... And sometimes a heartless one... We had a similar situation on a Disney trip when my Mother in Law died one month before we were to stay at Shades of Green. Because the reservation was in her name, they cancelled it and we had to rebook at a much higher room rate, due to being so late.
Maybe I just expect too much from Disney.Well our friends are going on the cruise, whether they get anything extra or not. I just thought it would be nice because of all the stuff these people have been through.

So glad your friend is finishing Chemo. How difficult that must be for a child and her parents. Be sure to let Guest Services know about her situation. They might surprise you.

Thanks, CM MOM, I will do just that. I am also going to do some things myself to make sure they have a great trip.
Any time I start feeling like I am having a bad day, I think of my friends, and I am ashamed of myself for not appreciating that my kids are healthy. And that is all that really matters! So, I try to hug my girls every day and tell them I love them.

Willy,

I remember that Erin told our Morgan about this friend of hers, we will keep her in our prayers!!

Sarah

Sarah,
I know that Hershel will take all the prayers for Caroline he can get! I will say thanks for him!
And hey, we still have room for one more family on this years Turkey Day cruise!

Take care, and tell Morgan that Erin is looking over my shoulder and she says hello, too.(She is out of school today for a doc visit, and hanging out in my office.)

WMiller....coming from a mom who has a child with cancer....please tell your friends that my thoughts and prayers are with her daughter. I can understand fully what they have gone through.

You may want to call Shirley at the Perfect Gift and have a nice basket made for her. I ordered one for my son to surprise him when we sail...kind of as an "off the chemo" type surprise. Other than that, even though it is not a Make-A-Wish, maybe the M.A.W. rep onboard can set up for her to meet the captain and see the control room. Was very interesting when I got to see it. Just a suggestion, not sure she would like it....:)

Anyway, enjoy your cruise....Tracy

Thanks for the info Tracy! I have rec'd some emails and PMs from folks that have had some magic done by guest services for their sick children. That would be great. And I am going to get Shirley to make up a terrific basket for all three of the kids. We tend to forget the sacrifices made by the siblings of children with cancer. They deserve a reward, too!
