Hello,

I was doing on-line check in for my BLT stay coming up and in the Special Request portion it gave me the option of for "sprbalc." Does anyone know what this means or where these rooms usually are? I'm guessing spare balcony?

TIA!

You can't make requests with online checkin for DVC. All requests must be made with MS.

That's interesting, christine. I've been able to put in requests each time I've done online checkins, and by "put in requests" I mean there has either been something clickable or type-in-able where I can indicate I need a ground floor for, for our 2 bedroom OKW stays.

But people have said that there are no requests, so I figure they changed just after our September stay last year, and I look forward to online checkin on the 30th so I can see!

But you're in the system right now, so can you describe it more? I have NO idea what sprbalc means, but I'd love to know what all you see (b/c I'm impatient and don't want to wait a few more days). :)

There were reports that some people were offered pirate rooms, too. That didn't exist.

I would still love to see what she's seeing.

If this stuff is popping up, it seems they are messing with the system, and perhaps are going towards it being possible. There's no reason why it isn't possible. It HAS been possible; for my Dec '10 and Sept '11 trips requests like I mentioned were right there, and *were met*.

And were met and met and met, LOL; my online checkin click/checkoff for the first part of each stay, ground floor at OKW for the 2 bedroom, continued to be met for the 1 bedroom part of OKW for both trips, and ooh I'm suddenly wondering if that's the reason why we got the HA AKJAmbo room in December that we so very much did not need or want...

Just for more data, here's what's currently listed as options when doing OLCI for OKW:
SPROKWMR
SPROKWTP
SPROKWPR
SPRFRWAY
Ground floor
SPROKWSP
SPROKWHH
Near transportation

I dont know what SPR means, but think it means Special Request. My guesses for what the others are below in red. Not sure what SPRFRWAY would mean, but the others make sense.

This is what the screened looked like for me. If SPR stands for special request, which makes sense after seeing the other codes, then I don't think it really matters or isn't a genuine special request. I booked a 1-bed room and thought all 1-bed rooms came with balconies?

Fairway, like a golf course view.
That makes sense:thumbsup2

Are some on ground floor and have a patio? If they do, then it would make sense to have a choice for balcony.

When I did BLT online check-in on Wednesday, I saw quite a few "SPR..." choices but, since I didn't know what they were, I didn't choose anything. When I reviewed by online checkin details, I saw that the following room request was in there: SPRHIGHFL. I assume it means high floor. When I made the original reservation on the phone, I had requested facing the Contemporary and higher floor.

After seeing this thread, I wanted to share the choices for BLT so just looked at Online Checkin again. Not sure why I can even get in there again since I already did online checkin :confused3 - but anyway. Today I see different choices - they are not codes any more.

The choices for BLT are (in 2 columns, in this order):
Request Lower Floor
Request 11th Floor
Request 10th Floor
Request near Skyway Bridge
Request 9th Floor
Request Balcony
Request 7th Floor
Request 16th Floor
Request 12th Floor
Request 8th Floor
Request 14th Floor

Looks like they list lower floor, then just filled in the floors from top to bottom. Who's going to specifically ask for the 8th or 9th floor?

^ What room type/view did you book?

I just looked at my on-line check in and it says "request balcony" instead now.

Just wondering as I have no data either way, but if they are putting special codes in for requests, will that restrict the types of requests that can be placed? Obviously you should still be able to call MS with more complicated requests I guess, just thinking out loud.

It has been reported for awhile that MS was now limited on the requests they could put in so I'm guessing the codes have been in use for a short while. I did have one CM who said she would add something that wasn't on the list to the notes field and that hopefully the resort would see it.

I had the same experience. I requested a low floor on a Kidani reservation. The CM said "OK" and then a few seconds later she laughed and told me she could request a high floor but that apparently they didn't anticipate someone requesting a low floor because there was no option for that. She added some notes to my reservation but warned me that the resort might not notice them.

That’s interesting because many people with mobility issues like a first floor room, even in a building with elevators since it means they are not stuck using the elevator all the time.

Some of the changes to the reservation system are probably due to the changes required because of a change to the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) that will be effective beginning March 15, 2012.
It will require hotels/resorts to:
  • allow accessible rooms to be booked in the same ways for people with disabilities(phone, internet) as for people without disabilities
  • have access to information available about those rooms that are descriptive enough for the person to decide whether the room will meet their needs (including photos or other images)
  • include information about which features which rooms have, including which are accessible with roll in showers and which have tubs with grab bars
  • reserve and hold a specific room for that specific guest with a disability. Those specific rooms must be actually removed from the reservation system (to avoid double booking and ensure that when the guest arrives the room they needed was available for them)
  • hold accessible rooms back for reservation by people with disabilities until all non-accessible rooms of that type/class have been rented.

Disney had dealt with this before through their Special Reservations Department, but will be required to deal with it on internet and “Mainstream” telephone bookings. So, there are a lot of changes coming in a short time.
So, some of the new codes that are mentioned in this thread are probably preparation for the new online ADA requirement, as well as enhancements to the online requests for other guests.
