Special Memories...lets hear them!

Hi there,

Back in Jul 01, my DH & DD(6) were just sitting down to a special meal in the Rose & Crown, it was to be our last meal together as when we arrived back in the UK the next day I went straight to Brize Norton for 4 months duty in the Gulf. The server wished us all well and asked if my daughter was shy, she's not, we thought this was strange. Twenty minutes later Disney management arrived and announced that my little girl would start the Illuminations which she did. They gave her a Special Certificate and lots of hugs.

Hi again,

On our first visit back in 98 we went for a Character meal in MGM on the soundstage. My DD then 3, watched her favourite character, Aladdin come to her table, it was the first part of the holiday where she was quiet. He continued to speak with her for ages and found out that one of her first words were "Badie" her name for Jafar. Aladdin laughed and asked if she had ever visited the cave of wonders, he then took her and her cousin too an off set area that was dressed as the cave of wonders with a huge staircase to the lamp which she was allowed to hold. The pictures are some of my favourites of all time.

There really are some special memories here -just reading them gives me goose-pimples!!

My special memory is getting married at Disneys wedding pavilion-then having our reception on the shore of the seven seas lagoon at the GF in time for the fireworks!!! :teeth:

My DD7 went to trade pins with a CM on main street named Dean.He started asking her some questions like her name and where she was from.He then asked her if we were her parents and then pulled us over to the side of the street. What he asked us next will live long in the memory.
He wanted us to be the Grand Marshalls for the parade that day.Well we couldn't beleive our luck.My wife and I actually talked about how Grand Marshalls were selected earlier in the holiday and we presumed they must be either famous or competition winners.Well now we know.

On our first visit to a water park , we were walking past a food stall when DD said to me "that man just shouted for Sam (youngest DS who was 7 ) to go to hIm"

I aske d Sam if he'd done anything & took him over.

The man behind the counter said Sam had given him such a great smile that he deserved a free Ice- Cream! & promptly gave him one.

Disney Magic!!!!!!!!!!

Apart from the first time entering MK mine would have to be when my DS met Spiderman at Universal. It was very early in the morning and DH & DD had gone off to ride Hulk, DS and I wandered into the Marvel Shop and saw Spiderman. He came straight over to DS saying 'Where have you been buddy. I've been waiting for you' and spent a good 10 minutes chatting to him about crime fighting etc before anybody else came along. DS (who was about 8 at the time) was mesmerised. This guy really was Spiderman. It was trully magical. I spent the rest of the day saying to DH 'I met Spiderman-He's real you know' :rotfl:

My favourite memory from our last trip was spending New Years Eve in MGM - watching Fantasmic at 10:30pm then the midnight fireworks which were amazing.

That and Christmas eve - having a wonderful meal at the California Grill with our best friends. We had a wonderful table overlooking the castle, then we went out to the viewing area to watch christmas Wishes followed by a wonder down to the MK to watch Spectromagic.

Got a bit of a long one here -

2004 was not a good year to start with, I was still receiving hospital treatment after an assault the previous year, so missed a big holiday skiing for my 30th birthday in the Feb :( It was DMIL's 60th birthday in the March and she had surgery for a replacedment heart valve the following month, which was successful :) Knowing DMIL hardly ever goes on holiday, had one holiday in last ten years pr so and that was when DBIL took her to DLRP for 4 nights before Christmas 2002 with his wife and 2 kids.

So knowing DStepFIL won't go away we planned surprise holiday for DMIL, she knew we were going away but not where! First off we thought of 4 nights in New York to see the sights and also Mamma Mia on Broadway. This slowly turned into 10 nights at WDW as DMIL loves dolphins and being as all 3 of her sons regulary visit Florida and talk so much about it, then the plan was truely hatched. DMIL hadn't a clue where she was going.3 months prior to the trip it increased to 12 nights, with 2 at RPR and also a day at DC was booked.

On Departure Day DMIL still has no clue where we were going, not until we got to the gate and the flight was announced and her face lit up at the total surprise. The next best bit was when she saw the dolphin pool at DC and realsied we were swimming with dolphins as DH ahd told her it was 'just a water park'!!! So in all after DMIL got over the shock of going to Florida she loved it and didn't want to go home!! DMIL still talks about her 'surprise' visit and the AKL where we stayed as it was perfect for her :teeth:

So in all this has been my most magical moment, showing WDW and the surrounding area to someone who thought they would never go :)

So in all 2004 was a good year in the end.

Claire ;)

I am reading this thread with tears in my own eyes realising why the Magic of Disney is so special.
In '99 when I took my DH we had only been together 8 months. He proposed to me in the final moments of the fireworks.
Since then we have taken our son (3) twice and the memories I have of watching his little face when he sees the characters or when he is on his favourite rides will live with me forever.

Hi

A special moment at WDW for me was only a daft thing but it made my hubby's day.

We were meeting belle (his fav female disney character) and he was very excited. When we finally met her she started to rub his face and said 'oooh you are beastly'. Well the look on his face was priceless, and he told everyone when we got back home, bless!

We went when DS was three and a half. We'd spent ages watching disney films, including the day at the magic kingdom video, and talking about where we were going on holiday. We got a bus transfer from the airport to PORFQ and DS crashes out on the bus, coming round just long enough to demand food when we get to the resort.

The next morning we are up rather early and wandering around the resort when DS, an ardent Fireman Sam fanatic, shouts out "There's Pontypandy Park", as we walk passed one of the landscaped areas. The formal planting and central fountain was just like the scenes from Fireman Sam set in the park.

Later that morning, after going to the welcome meeting and collecting our hire car we got the bus from POFQ to MK. All of a sudden, as we were getting close to the Contemporary, DS spots Cinderella's castle over the trees. His face was a real picture, get's my eyes watering thinking about it now.

We'd been at the MK for a while when DS goes to the toilet, only to come out of the cubicle in a real strop - "Mummy, mummy, someone's stolen my vester!". He'd been asleep when he got to bed and not noticed that he hadn't got a vest on in the morning (all the excitement). He was most upset, it was winter and he didn't have a vest on, even though the temperatures were in the 30s.

We went back last year (DS was 9). The things that are fixed in my mind from then are two pieces of street theatre at the studio. On Halloween the "street workmen" were looking for people in costume and handing out candy (which was actually bags of sugar). A little earlier we had been walking back from the Tower of Terror when a little old lady and her assistant set up on the side of the street. She gets her assistant to rope in members of the assembling audience to do her bidding (in bizzare ways) without saying a word, only ringing a bell. DS got lumbered to do lots of stuff. It absolutely hillarious (I laughed my socks of... until I got picked on).

Good stuff.

Another special memory of mine is on my wedding day in disney. :bride:

After 2 mad years of planning my big day it seemed I had been a bit naive about how to get to the meeting place for a romantic horse and carriage ride that evening. We got a taxi to the resort we thought was very close to it (costly) but once he had gone we released we were no one near it. My hubby and I were stood looking utterly bewildered and lost :guilty: , when a disney employee spotted us. We asked him how we could get to the meeting point and he explained it was quite away, we were very pushed for time and I think the utter panic in our face showed. He kindly gave us a lift to it on his little cart thing (like a golf cart) and chatted to my hubby about english football... sigh!

Once he got us to where we wanted to be we offered him a tip just to say thank you and he looked horrified and said he wouldnt take it and waved us goodbye.

Well we made it ok and had a lovely time but the kindest of that man will never be forgotten and it made our day that little bit more special.

Some lovely and magical memories there. I've enjoyed reading them, thanks.
One of my memories from this last trip just makes me smile.
We were at MGM EMH and had wandered around after Fantasmic for a while, but didn't hang around, so it was a little after 8pm and very quiet.
There was a disco at the Mickey Hat, and as we set off to go back to the hotel, he put YMCA on. Well, first there was this little group right in front of the hat enjoying themselves, but as we went off down the MGM equivalent of Main St(sorry), there were little groups all the way down joining in. Couple's here, a group of teenage girls over there, Grandmas, tinies...it was just so funny and warming. It wasn't a big group thing, just these little groups all the way to the exit, a fun way to end the day. Funny thing about that song isn't it?

my special memory was waiting for donald duck at the front of the line with my dd then 4yrs. He approached from behind the scenes (after a refreshment break) and as he walked along the path towards my dd he picked an orchard flower and gave it to her. this made our day. Also another good memory was outside cinderella castle my then 2yr old ds had just got cinderellas autograph and she kissed him on the cheek, he kept the lipstick there all day. we have lots of happy memories but these two always stand out. :cheer2:

What a great thread!!

My favourite memory was on our 1st wedding anniversary. I had a limo pick us up from our hotel (DH's face was a picture). We had our favourite radio station blasting all the way to the Beach Club, whilst sipping champane (OK, it wasn't champagne, it was coke but never mind!)

When we arrived it poured, but we just put on our ponchos and strolled in the rain. We had a early dinner at Beaches and Cream and just seemed to laugh all the way through dinner. We then explored the resort and went on the surrey bikes. We just laughed so hard! we were rubbish at controlling it and had to be pushed up the hill by some joggers  . We went on our IllumiNations cruise (IllumiNatios is my very fave thing!) and got all teary. We then bought some pins and walked round the Boardwalk watching the entertainment.

Sucha great night. A special memory for us.

Hopefullyb we will have some new special memories when we take baby evie in may! :teeth:
