Special events for DVC members

Does anyone know of "special events" at parks that are scheduled for DVC members? And are you invited to those if you purchased through resale? I was invited by a DVC member (they purchased direct) to the Merry Mixer at EPCOT last month, and it was AWESOME! If I join DVC through resale, would I be invited to those kinds of events?

All "events" are put on buy DVD "Disney Vacation Development" the DVC marketing group with the hopes that you will buy more points direct. The only events currently are the Merry Mixer and Welcome Home Wednesdays or if on a Disney cruise, they have events.

Since the events are paid for by Disney, they could change or go away at anytime.

We purchased through resale in 2008 and have gone to Welcome Home Wednesdays twice without any troubles!

Of course you will be invited! The only thing you can't do with a resale contract is exchange out to RCI or the Disney Collection.

Other way - they can still exchange to RCI, Club Cordial and Club Intrawest. They cannot book with Disney collection (includes cruises), concierge collection or adventure collection

These events are usually announced on the Member website, by email and sometimes by snail mail. Some are also included with check-in packages when they correspond to your stay.

Welcome Home Wednesdays take place weekly, except in December, where they are replaced by the Merry Mixers I think.

Time and place for the WHW usually are posted at the community board of the resorts and I also have seen posters in the elevators.

For the Merry Mixers, the times and location are posted on the DVC Members website under "Special Events". (Just noticed that the WHW are also posted there.)

I think DVC members used to be invited to pre-openings of new/refurbished rides (ie a few days before they were available to the general public).
But it seems Disney now gives that perk to D23 members ;/ So yes, you cannot count on anything other than having a room with your DVC.

I bought resale, and went to the Merry Member Mixer in December. Even wrote a letter about the snacks provided, and got a nice response.
Another "special event" that is for DVC owners is, I believe, a sale maybe once a year at the Disney Store in Downtown Disney. They open early for DVC owners.
