special dinner for 1

Hi - am traveling to WDW solo the 4th-7th of September.

I usually try to "treat" myself to a special meal....any suggestions of where to go? Don't want to feel too out of place sitting by myself. Probably will do lunch to make the $$ last a little longer, but am flexible.

Went in May, and did H & V for the Fantasmic! dinner/show combo. Have done Alfredo's in EPCOT, the Crystal Palace for Character Breakfast (this was with sister/nephew).

Can be in the parks, Downtown Disney/Marketplace, or in a hotel.

Well - we loved Boma's. Great food, wonderful ambience, good service, and a chance to enjoy AKL. As a bonus we enjoyed looking at the African artwork in the lobby, and of course the animals (real!), which can be reached through the back of the lobby. Also, if you time it right, you can sit around one of the open 'fire pits' (forgot the proper name of them), back of the hotel and listen to stories from the African CM's there. As we went in January, when it wasn't busy, we had their full attention and time it was great. Oh - and we also went early (around 5pm) when the truck comes round to fill the feeding troughs, which attracted the animals, so that made it even better.

Whatever you decide - hope it's special for you.

When the travel channel did a special on the AKL, it showed Samantha Brown (that cute little host lady) enjoying a wonderful meal by herself at Jiko. She was able to eat at the bar area, looking into the kitchen, watching the chefs prepare the food. I would think that would be fun for you!

Then you could venture out and enjoy the firepit or animals, as UKAnnie mentioned.

If I were going solo I would be most likely to pick someplace with a view or entertainment. Would you consider doing Hoop De Doo? Or California Grill or Jiko with a view of the chefs would be neat - also California Grill around fireworks time is wonderful. For a nice lunch with a great view maybe Narcoosees would be open?

I don't have any suggestions... well, now that I think of it, I can recommend the Brown Derby in Disney-MGM Studios. Very nice.

If dining alone I would probably look for places that have a bar area where you can sit and perhaps watch the chefs (like Flying Fish) or where I could wait for a great view (like a window seat almost anywhere).

If I ever go alone the first place I would like to try would be the tea at the GF. I have read of many ladies eating there while alone.

Someone mentioned Hoop De Doo. Having just dined there a few weeks ago--I would have felt strange there alone. I think 1/2 the fun of being there is watching loved ones faces as you "share" a laugh.

DH dines at WDW alone quite a bit. He has enjoyed dining at Shutter's at CBR, Boma at AKL (ask for a window seat so that if you don't have a person to converse with you have a view to study). Actually, while at Boma our favorite server (who knows us from visit to visit) sat down and conversed with him about our family for about 30 minutes so he wasn't really alone there.

I think it would fun to dine alone at WDW. (no one to please but YOU!) I hope you have a wonderful time! Good luck! Let us know how it turns out for you.

I have dined solo at CRT, Akershaus (Norway), Chef's de France, LTT, Boma,and Boatwrights. I'd definitely recommend Cinderella's Royal Table. It was such a special feeling to eat there (and by the way, it's the only resturaunt where I saw another female solo diner). Also, I really liked LTT. I ate there on my last solo trip, and plan to eat there again. Both were for lunch.

Kinda facing the same thing here. I'll be in Orlando for some business, but tacking on a couple of days at the front in at VWL. From what I've been able to discern, anywhere with a "counter" overlooking the kitchen (i.e., Flying Fish, CG) looks like a lot of fun, and it's easy to strike up conversations - if you're so inclined - with fellow diners and CM's. So, I'd agree with my fellow posters.

It's all good, but it seems that one of the "show" places like Whispering Canyon, Hoop-de-Do, 'Ohana, might not be as fun alone.

On the other hand, I'll eat anything that's not tied down.

I vote boma...awesome ambiance...reasonable (for WDW anyways) price for a REALLY good buffet.....and since you can get up and move aout the resaurant getting your food...you're not really alone then are you?

Secret tip I learned from someone else on the boards - take a notebook with you and make notes on your day during your meal. Keeps you busy if there's nothing else to look at.

One year three sisters wanted to eat at different places in World Showcase. I ate in Mexico and had no problem eating solo. My one sister however at in Japan at the Benihana type restaurant where you sit around the grill and watch the chef prepare the food. She loved it. The people seated with her were very cordial and she had a great time talking to people from various parts of the country.

A good place is Le Cellier in Canda. I have eaten there solo at least twice and the CMs are great. They all love to talk about Canada.
Jiko's has the bar which was fun. Chef's de France also has one.

My other fav is lunch at the Rose And Crown. I get a salad and the mushroom appitizer and sit outside. So nice and relaxing.

I travel on business so eating alone does not really seem to phase me much anymore.

I think this is a good idea, you can sit outside and watch all the activity...I really like that idea!

Flying Fish is just great at the counter area. There is a lot of interaction with the chefs.
