I have a question for everyone...

Does anyone have a laptop??????

I was thinking of getting one to take away with me on vacations in order to upload my pictures and keep my trip journals and be able to access the internet.

So...does anyone have one....if so...do you like it, hate it...have any recommendations??????

Thanks in advance

I don't have a Dell. Have an HP.:thumbsup2
Having said that, I have heard that Dell makes a good machine.

I looked at the 1520 on the Dell website and I have the following suggestions....
1. Go for the 9 cell battery. Even though this will add to the weight, it will add to the time away from the plug.

2. The standard 1520 comes with Windows XP OS, so the 1 gig onboared memory should do you fine.
IF the model you get (i noticed that there are several versions) has Windows Vista operating system, get 2 Gig onboard memory. This will speed things up.

3. You may want to consider a larger hard drive if you plan on storing a lot of pictures. It comes with 120 gig standard, but the upgrades are cheaper now than they would be later if you should run out of room.

What color are you getting? No reason, just nosy.

If you get a chance to see one, try out the keyboard. Some have a better feel than others.
It's a personal preference thing.

1. okay....looked at that...only adds $20 to the price

2. The one I selected has 2 GB of memory so I think that is enough for what I need. I really want XP...heard too many horror stories about Vista....plus this way I can transfer data between my laptop and desktop.

3. I'm not planning on storing the pictures on the laptop....once we've returned from our trips I will save the pictures onto a CD (or two or three...LOL) and then re-load them when I am going to scrapbook my trip.

4. Colour = Flamingo Pink!!!!!

With respect to the keyboard...I hear you on that one but I can live with just about anything.....when I was an auditor and on the road, we were given laptops and didn't have a choice...you had to use what they gave you.....so I have had an HP, IBM, Compaq....my friends that currently have a Dell really like it....

I sent you an email with more info....

Thanks for the tips though

Elaine, I will post a couple of suggestions in the AM.

Ok the Am is Here, my Friend Danorlou has one, has had no problem with it, I like it!
Since you are across the border, any deals for 25% off and such may not help you!
Do you have a dell outlet site, there?
can get some really good prices on refurbished ones.

tired right now!

Thanks for the info Peter (and thanks Danorlou!!!!!)

There is a Dell.ca website and depending on what you purchase you may be entitled to discounts....the discounts I would earn on the laptop I'm thinking of is $110 off the list price so that's not too bad.

Sounds like you are there.
Like I said, the bigger battery will come in handy, even with the extra weight.
Great on the 2 gigs.
Yes, I have heard the Vista horror stories. Have not encountered them personally.
Since you have a dvd writer on the machine, you can store data on dvds also.
Cd's have about 700 megabyte capacity, where dvds can store about 4.7 gigabytes. That's a lot of scapbook stuff.

Finally, I like the Flamingo Pink. Too bad they did not have Lime Green.:lmao:

Bob...Dell does have a Spring Green but sadly it is not available on the model I want. So Flamingo Pink it will be....

I don't really have anything to say, I just thought i would be the first to post today!

Oh yes--Did anyone see the Travel channel last night. I was flipping through :happytv: and they had DCL feature. Does Disney own Travel Channel-there seem to be alot of Disney features:cool1:. I love watching them--it is like a Calgon moment. (do they still make Calgon?)

Elaine, Ditto on what Bob has posted, if storage is ever an issue one can get a small in physical size USB hard drive to take along. They are getting very reasonable. I haev had a couple of Dell's and like them, currently I haev a sony VIO, I like it, size for travel is nice, Running Vista and have not had a problem. At work we are running all Mac's, and I do like my mac book pro laptop using boot camp to run XP on it. I stayed with teh windows machines for home because of GPS programs and others in that environment. My VIO is Blue with a plathora of Disney Stickers.

Alos any laptop or computer you get has a ton of useless junk on it that slows them down, so keep that in mind, and plan on checking to see what ya really need.

The OS system Ubutu is pretty KEWL and is Lenix based, gaining popularity.

I saw it last night. I love to watch Travel Channel when they have Disney on. I don't know if it is owned by Disney or not, but they do the other cruise lines too all the time.

No, not the grandchild, just a cute picture that someone sent me, besides I don't get pictures like this.

But, since you mentioned it, we did give our kids a surprise for Christmas, we paid for them to go on the cruise with us.

So, Peter if you read this we have two more cabins!
For now you can just list them as kids of Dopeylover54.

DS Beau, DDL Sunshine, DGD Riley, DGD Abby and DD Beth, and DD,s friend Orion.

This will be our DS and DD,s first Disney Cruise. They are really excited.

This is our son and his family, part of the group that is going with us.

Gee Scott...why am I not surprised your laptop is covered with Disney stickers!!!!!

My laptop has been ordered....anticipated delivery date is March 24!!!!!!

I have a really KEWL jeweled princess crown that I think I might use to decorate my Flamingo Pink laptop...like the pink colour isn't girlie enough!!!!!!!!!!

Are you living in the wrong place or what?;)

I was just wondering, what is everyone's plans prior to the cruise?
Will you be staying on Disney property, near the port or going directly to the ship or something completely different?(say in your best Monty Python voice-"And now for something completely different".)
Peter- is there a list of who is doing what?

I am still deciding. As of now I have ressies at POR--hoping they announce free dining! although, I am finding that I want to stay at a DVC resort, but I won't get free dining. I am also thinking of staying near the port at the beach for a day or 2, but I am not sure about that. :confused3

We couldn't decide if we wanted to visit WDW before or after the cruise...so we are doing both!!!!!! We'll be at Pop Century from Aug 25 - Sept 1 and Sept 6 - 13.

We will be at DL the day before and the a late night flight to MCO, after I think we are at AKV for a couple of days

No, feel free to start one! :wizard:

Afternoon everyone.

Wales playing Ireland today in Ireland. If Wales win they will also win the Triple Crown - we'll see;)

I've got one hour before the game starts so I'm going to pop out and get some lager for the match.

We have several Travel Channels here in the UK which devote lots of time to cruising and the various cruise companies but they have NEVER showed DCL - glad in a way - it's my little secret.:rolleyes1
