Special 9/1/08 Cruise Continued - Part 3

Sorry Georgie. You're right, he wanted airport. I guess I'm just too excited. I leave for Milwaukee this afternoon and fly out to CA tomorrow early :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Have a great trip Tracy!! Tell Laura and Julie hi for me if you see them before the cruise. See you in Florida!!!

We got our docs! We're OFFICIAL! :woohoo: Kinda strange though... they sent them to David... at OUR address. I had to call to be sure they had me and Joe set up as the primary contacts, etc. After all... we want to be set up as return cruisers!:lmao:

Had an eye-opening day at work that shocked me into reality about LIFE. Please bear with me as I share a bit... Many of you know I'm a breast cancer survivor coming up on 9 years this December. The whole experience was a strong one surrounded by the love and prayers of friends and family and an incredible husband. At 45, much to the surprise of my surgeon, who went to the lab and double checked the biopsy results himself, I was diagnosed with bi-lateral breast cancer. Through all of the horrors, I was blessed with a peace that I had never known before, as though God was allowing me to see only as much as I could handle every day. Looking back, especially today, I realized just how incredibly blessed I have been.

Several co-workers had been diagnosed and treated since my surgery. We keep in touch through out the year checking up on each other. One gal, just last year had survived Stage 5 cancer, chemo, etc. I had just seen her last week at work before we left for Moue Beach. I learned this afternoon that her cancer had spread to other organs and couldnot be treated further. She passed away on Sunday. She was 46 years old, with an 8 year old son.

Even as I type, I am still shaken and realize something I've always known in theory, but have let slide over the past few years. Life is a VERY precious gift. Yes, times can be hard, and not all things are fair, but there are blessings that surface, and they must be held onto. Joy will follow. It IS a Wonderful Life. :lovestruc

Thanks for letting me share. I am now ever mindful of the life I have been blessed with. The Lord has walked with me every step of the way. To dear friends and new found ones. You are part of the gift. I am so looking forward to celebrating life on this cruise!!! :cloud9:

OKAY!!! I'm off to work on the FE Gifts!!!

So sorry to hear about your friend, but it is too true, Life is precious and we should enjoy everyday!
I don't feel so bad about spending the kitchen remodeling fund to extend this vacation anymore.:lmao: No really...I spent the deck fund and the dining room fund going to Hawaii in April.
I'm broke, but I'm enjoying life:thumbsup2 :cool1:

Tracy - Have a fantastic trip! Don't work too hard on this vacation....although as you said before, the location of your office will be much better, right:goodvibes

I have my own little countdown until vacation....I only have 4 more days at work until we leave  :cool1: :dance3: :cool1:

To all the folks leaving for CA, I hope it brings you all the magic Disney has to offer!! I am so jealous! My son and I were going to be on the crossing but I just had to cancel  in June 08. So my loss was someone else’s gain on deck 6. I hope to see lots of photos.

A DREAM IS A WISH YOUR HEART MAKES. Go and make all your dreams come true with Mickey and the Magic.

Now that I am back on track, here is our number for today, only

Sorry to hear about your friend. She is the reason why I wanted to share this message with y’all.

Last year I made the decision to take a large portion of money and take my ten year old son on a Disney Vacation. We had been to DL and WDW prior to 07 but this was going to be different. I wanted to bring our bond closer together. As a single mom, sometimes you don’t always get to be there for their special moments or hug them after a bad day at school. My heart told me this was the moment in time when my child was going to be moving into middle school and mom may not always be as important as a special friend and video games. I wanted to create the moment in time when ds could look back at all the fun and love we had together with Disney. I wanted us to have something special together.

In May 07 I took ds to WDW for six days five nights and off to the first (14 night) transatlantic crossing. We enjoyed the crossing so much. I would do it again! We made life long friends. We met a special family from Roseville, CA on our first stop, CC. How great was that. We were able to spend the next six days at sea, getting to know one another and the kids looked forward to seeing each other at the lab. Also, they were seated at our table for the dining rotation. I always find it amusing to know many more friends were made in the laundry room. We were in stateroom 6580, just a few doors down. Our final cruise stop was Barcelona Spain.

We left the ship for eleven days and toured the country. We stayed in a condo on the southern coast of Spain. We had a good time but it wasn’t Disney. I was disappointed there wasn’t a Navigator under our door, to help organize my days and the excursion desk to help navigate our outings. I missed the crew and other passengers.

We returned to the pier and got in line to return on the Magic, (10 night) Mediterranean cruise. I think to date that was the most excited I had been to board the ship. When we approached the entry door two crew members ran down the ramp and gave my son and I a hug and said “Welcome home from your vacation. We missed you while you were gone. Tell us about your vacation.” I couldn’t believe the warm welcome. I was reminded why I love the crew and the ship. They always make you feel like family. We had a great time on board and didn’t want to leave. So I planned two more trips.

We returned to Spain and flew to London and stayed for another week. We flew from London to Houston and stayed a couple more days. DS wanted to see the Johnson Space Center. A total of five and a half weeks later we were retuning home.

Later, I questioned if that was a wise choice with my money. Should I have invested it into my retirement? Should I have finished my basement? Should I have put it in the bank for a rainy day? About a month after our return I met a woman in her late thirties or early forties. She was fighting bone cancer for the second time. She talked about her four children and how they weren’t going to have their mother. I was so sad but then she said, “Go look into my bathroom and look at my children’s photos. That is one of the happiest times in my life. When I leave this earth, I will always remember us together in
The photos.” I went into her bathroom and saw three photos of her family together at CC with the Wonder behind them. I knew then I should quit second guessing myself.

As the year progressed and the economy was taking a down turn, I started to second guess myself about the trip. Also, people who I worked with thought I was crazy to do the trips. I love to travel and share it with my ds. They couldn’t believe I was going again. I was driving to work on a beautiful early morning. The sun was orange and just peaking through the clouds. I was looking at the seen and thinking how grateful I was to be here and what we all have. Later, the same day I was injured on the job. When they took X-Rays they stated my hand wasn’t broken like they thought but they did notice a cist that may be bone cancer. I went to a specialist, and he doesn’t think it is but I will have to have surgery for the final determination. At that time I knew I had done the right thing for ds and myself. Live today and cherish every piece of it. No one can take the memories from you. Life is precious. Let’s make the most of the time we have here.

Ahhhh... I have fond memories of that night in the hallway... :rotfl2: In fact.. I think that's even one of the scrapbook pages I actually completed!!! :thumbsup2
Lesley looks like the Blue Fairy come to grant our wishes.... :lmao:

Great pictures, Doesn't she look just like the Blue Fairy!!! Scott and I missed the sleep-in, but Scott caught it on his way to his morning run.

Laxmom, they really are a great bunch over there. I will finally get to do some digiscrapping now that I'll be a lady of leisure and plan to spend more time on the Scrap Board.

Janis, that is what I thought when I retired, I think I have spent a total of about 4 days scrapbooking since I retired. For some reason, I am more busy than before I retired! I have no idea how I got anything done while I was working!

Tracy and Bill - have a great trip - see you in a couple of weeks!

this newbie has a question

for everyone doing the repo cruise and then meeting up with us on the 1st.....

will they be able to stay in the same cabin for the whole two trips? will they have to get off the ship and then get back on(that just seems silly)

I am just curious, even with changing cabins, it just seems silly to have to get off and get back on again. I have never heard of this so please anything you could share would be appreciated

Some will, some won't. Disney tries to keep you in the same room but it doesn't always work. Like us, I absolutely won't stay in the same room because they wouldn't upgrade me to the Roy Suite on the 15 night!

You do have to get off the ship and go through customs, but then we can get back on. I'll be staying off for a while because my family is joining us.

Thanks for sharing that with us - We feel exactly like that, and that's why this is our second cruise this year (out of three planned.) We retired March 1st. Everybody always says how much money you need to save for retirement so's you don't out live your money. We probably shouldn't spend a dime if we're going to live to be ninety. But we've got no promise we're going to live to be 90 - so we've planned ahead as best we can, and now we're going out and make those memories, while we're able.

Looking forward to meeting you, on the ship!

Blue Fairy checking in. I have not worn that dress since the cruise in 2005. I am now tempted to bring it for formal night, add a magic wand and turn all of you into REAL... boys and girls, cruisers, lanyard people... or whatever your heart desires.

:grouphug: to Georgie and Sorcerer-Mickey.

Welcome to California Tracy and Bill.

Today is the final day for Volleyball tryouts for DD. We should know her status on the team tonight.

Sadly, even though we are in cat 6 cabins for both, we will have to move . . . but as Tracy says, we will just get off the ship and right back on again. Disney will move our luggage to the next room.

Greetings, everyone, from the Disneyland resort! We will head to the Magic on Sunday and will see all of you on Sept. 1!

Building Memories with our new friends on the Magic.

Thank you for sharing your story. We have spent a lot of vacations with our kids, who are now adults, that we questioned the amount of money we were spending. Looking back, I would not trade any of them for the world. It makes me smile everytime we take one of the kid's significant other on a trip with us and the kids try to fit everything we did with them over the years into one trip.

We are doing this cruise with all three of our adult children and my one son's soon to be wife. She has never cruised before and has never been to WDW. It should be an interesting trip. We are looking forward to making memories with our grandchildren one day.

Peter Pan and Mickey are my two favorite characters and you used both of them today. Thanks for making my day brighter.:)

Well, we are too.
Almost. UPS says the docs will be here tomorrow.:thumbsup2

Now, we just need to add transportation from AKV to the airport. Anyone done this before?

With DCL, we've only done the airport to the dock, and the dock to a resort. We've never done the DCL shuttle from a resort to the airport. Can't you use Magical express for that. We've used ME with cash and with point ressies. Then you may only need a one way shuttle and save some $$$

Magical Express won't go all the way to the port. Transfers from AKV with DCL are $35 per person one way.

Thanks Tracy! I thought Bob wanted to go back to the airport from AK. You're right. If you're going to the port, DCL gets you there. When we stayed at AKL our pick up wasn't until 1:00 ! YIKES!

HEY! You're leaving SOON! Can you stand the EXCITEMENT!!! ENJOY! See you at the port! :goodvibes

You are right Georgie.
I called DVC and did the arrangement. So we are taking the DCL shuttle from the airport to the ship and from the ship to AKV. Then afterwards we are scheduled to take the DME to the airport.

Oh, by the way....We Got Docs!
