Special 1 hour Animal Kingdom Tour?

Hi All-

Heard briefly about a one hour tour offered at Animal Kingdom in special ride vehicles. It is at 10am and 1pm and cost about $45 pp. Just wondering if anyone knows any details about this tour? DD11 is a huge animal lover and we are looking to do something different for her this trip.

I heard about this last week from a CM. Its called the Wildlife Discovery Excursion Tour and available, I think, to guests staying concierge level at any WDW hotel, not just the AKL. Its offered daily at 10a and 1p and the cost is $45/per person. Unlike the Sunrise Safari and Wanjama Safari, there is no meal included. I think someone at 407-WDW-Play can book it.

At Disney's Animal Kingdom With New Wildlife Discovery Excursions

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Walt Disney World Resort concierge-level guests can venture off the beaten path of the Harambe Wildlife Reserve at Disney's Animal Kingdom for a unique wildlife discovery excursion. Led by a seasoned safari guide and an animal expert, the adventure takes guests beyond the safari trail, stopping at special observation and photo areas throughout the 110-acre savannah of the reserve. The excursions begin Feb. 15.

Small groups (no more than 14 guests) travel in a custom-designed, climate-controlled vehicle for the one-hour excursion, offered daily at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cost is $45 per guest with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Disney Wildlife Conservation Fund.

This was what I was searching for and I could not remember the name of the tour. Sounds like it might now be available to anyone as the CM offered it to us and she knew we were not staying concierge. I will call now to confirm that and post an update in case anyone else is interested...

Just got off the phone with Disney and the Wildlife Discovery Tour is indeed for concierge guests only. Oh well! Maybe we can save enough $ to stay concierge level next trip!

Not sure about this new one. We did the Sunrise Safari and there were little kids on it, probably as young as 4 or 5.

I just emailed concierge and they sent me right over a power point presenatation all about it and said they will book it if I want... Only one problem.... I dont have power point on my computer so I guess I wont be seeing it.

I'm a little confused about the cost of this tour. Is it really $45, and yet lasts for only 1 hr. I thought the Wild by Design tour was only about $50 and lasted 3 hours. If that's true, this new tour would be very expensive by comparison. I'm thinking of taking the Wild by Design Tour sometime. Any comments/reviews?

It didnt give very much info and was exactly what MNSusan already posted although the email I recieved said they could book it for me even though I am going in sept which I guess means that it is available now. Thanks guys. Also do you think we should do this as we already have the backstage safari planned or will this be too much??/ ANy imput?

The tour started 2/2005 so you should be able to book for September. Enjoy!
