Spaceship Earth-Deathstar?

It seems to me that disney doesn't know what to make of this movie from a marketing angle...

I think they statistically had resigned themselves that it was going to be a step backward from the last movie...money wise it likely will be...

But they are not as good at predicting the market with this demo - most assuredly 40 year old males...as they are the under 10 circuit in animation or the 12-30 geekdom of marvel...

I think this is going to be a "sleeper" for Star Wars...if that's possible.

Many (my impression...just saying) died in the wool pre-internet fans have come around to what I thought about the Abrams reboot: it was much "better"...but lacked some feel/depth we needed to really tie us back in...

And no...it's not just that we're old...it's that there was much more of an elegant, fluid nature to a movie like empire strikes back...

Funny thing is that we didn't realize it at the time.

Mark hamill'a performance with frank oz was emotional glue that has held the mythos together in a one of a kind way for film...as Irvin kershner swore decades ago when the film was largely just thought of as cool popcorn.

So here we are...still awaiting that right blend of fandom
And service to the Hollywood money machine...i think R1 will get closer...if not all the way there.

My point: full circle...is that I think disney is undermarketing this one...because it doesn't sit right on the surface like the money hog from
Last year...

Hence bad events like last night.

The next 375 days will determine what Star Wars becomes...these two movies.

They can't make transformer movies or they will upset the apple
Cart permenantly...they'll learn.

It was a Disney parks blog meet up. You had to sign up and then if you got an invitation after you signed up you got to go. The event itself was free for invited guests to attend.

So Disney got no money from anyone...and we wonder why it sucked:)...

The script was pretty awful, and I actually was a lot less impressed with the death star than I thought I would be.

I think the biggest let down was what most people were there for - the Death Star. It was all of what? 30 seconds? Much cooler if they had projected the 3D "blue prints" and talked about its capabilities and future plans THEN had incoming ship...with "fireworks" explosion.

On the other hand (and to be fair), this was a free event for only 400 people, so it wouldn't make sense to invest a lot of time & money into it, right? And I say that with all seriousness...it was just a fun little bonus for DPB/Star Wars fans. Can't really complain about free...

Is that not the truth! Remember the live stream of one of the last MSEP's? There was not much coverage of the actual parade!
Yep, they did interviews during the parade. Hello people I want to watch the parade not interviews!

From all the insider chatter this movie is going to determine the future for Star Wars. Its rumored that Disney wants this movie to do well since they want to move away from the Skywalker/Epsiode movies and instead stick to a individual stories from the Star Wars universe model. This movie and the under development Han Solo one seem to be the test cases for this model.

I agree...the Han Solo and rumored boba fett (hopefully dead) movies are not a good formula though...

It's one thing to tell an untold story hinted at...another to try to do backstory on an iconic, dead character...

We saw it crash and burn spectacularly with Vader

No matter how good it is...the comparison to a young Harrison ford is gonna kill it.

You know the other problem with rogue one? I suspect...a reason why disney can't figure out what to do and they wanted changes...is because all their people are "Pixar trained"...and dead characters don't sell a lot of toys...just a hunch

I have not seen any trailers for Rogue One, nor do I know much about it. But dollars to donuts, this guy is going to be flying off some shelves.

That has to be the worst promotional spot ever produced by Disney. Heads should roll for this fiasco!

They just seem to be lost these days.

Canceling the Fireworks at DHS, and then two weeks before the movie announce they are coming back all of a sudden... Just seems random.

I was always under the impression DHS fireworks were just on hiatus during jingle bam though it looks like from 12/16-the end of the holiday season they are doubling up
