I love SPE .Myself and DGF ride SPE at least 5 times when we are in Epcot.
Question is, When you are at the very top. I have heard rumors that there was a city of the future there. I this so?

Yeah, it was the best. I miss it. It was pretty cool. Now, when you get there, it's like it's "missing something."

I THOUGHT I heard the reason they took it out had something to do with when AT&T dropped their sponsorship.

It's been awhile, but if memory serves, it was like looking down on a future civilized, developed moon.

To the dismay of my DF, Spaceship Earth MUST be the very first and very last thing I do at WDW. It's the way I kick off my trip, and I always want it to be my last memory. I guess Spaceship Earth is my "Aloha."

I love Spaceship Earth too. It really makes me feel that I'm at WDW. Its just such a Magical feeling!

Add another SE fan here! I still miss the paperboy yelling "Extra Extra New York Daily!" I can hear it at that point in the ride in my imagination to this day!

SE is one of the best rides at Epcot! Even though I'm a thrill junkie and prefer the faster rides, I still look forward to riding SE. Back when you could download music for free (the good ole days ;) ), my brother found a clip of the whole SE ride. So I listen to that all the time. It's not the best sound quality, but it works for me! you can hear the trains clacking through the ride, the occasional comment from other passengers. It's just like the ride!!! :cloud9:

Hey Guys - you have tested my memory beyond it's capability. I don't remember what you all are talking about. Can you elaborate on it - maybe it will jog the ole' memory.

We were there last July and I don't remember the city or the paper boy not being there. I'll have to pay attention this year. I love SE. We used to ride it first thing when we arrived at EP, but now with Soarin we ride that first. Last year was the first time we ever had to wait in a line for SE. I guess we never worried about rides when we rode it at park opening.

The paperboy is still there, he just says something else now. And that city was awesome! All tiny and lit up, with moving lights to simulate cars/subways etc moving across the city. Ah the good old days!

I still don't understand why Disney takes the best parts out of rides or change rides that don't need changing...ie. Journey into Imgination.

The paperboy now says, "Extra, Extra, Read all about it...."

We missed Spaceship Earth last year. We're making it a must do for our next trip.

OT-anyone else having trouble posting? I had to do a quick reply.

Not sure what youre referring to, that sounds like the city at the end of World of Motion, not Spaceship Earth

I too am a big fan of Spaceship Earth. I have managed to get everyone in my family to ride it and at least pretend to enjoy it. Sorry this is so long, but I had to share this with my fellow Spaceship Earth fans.

Last February it was just my husband and I at Disney, he had never been to Epcot and all he wanted to ride was Mission Space. He had heard so much about it being a great thrill ride, people get really sick, they have barf bags on the ride, etc, etc. That was his "must ride", and he had no idea about what Spaceship Earth entailed. I of course, being the Disney expert of the family, knew that Spaceship Earth and Mission Space have about 180 degrees of difference.

We arrived at Epcot after dark, there was no line to ride Spaceship Earth, so I urged my husband up the ramp. We entered the dome and we waved onto the moving platform into the ride vehicle. I didn't give it a second thought, but my husband was anxiously wanting to know where the seatbelt and restraints were. As we started to move forward into the darkness, he reached over and grabbed my hand. How sweet, I thought. He leaned in and asked my in a slightly nervous tone of voice, where the heck the barf bags wereand how we were supposed to stay in the vehicle. It was at that moment that I put two and two together. (His revelation came just half a minute later.)

Then the calm and soothing voice started to speak from the headrests, I can't recall the exact words, but it was something about the journey of humans in the quest for communication. Then we began to move towards the beautifully done scenes. It was at that moment that my husband loudly and indignantly protested, "HEY, THIS ISN'T MISSION SPACE!!" much to the amusement of his wife and the people in front of us AND behind us.
Needless to say, he was a bit ticked off that I hadn't warned him about the quote, "history lesson on wheels ride" beforehand. (I happen to have a BA in History, so I find any history lesson interesting, especially those on wheels.)

He did eventually end up on Mission Space, but that is another story.
After all was said and done, we had a good laugh about his "historical ride"!

"Like a grand and miraculous spaceship, our planet has sailed through the universe of time. And for a brief moment, we have been among its many passengers. From the very beginning, we have always sought to reach out to one another...to bridge the gaps between us...to communicate. "
