I too am a big fan of Spaceship Earth. I have managed to get everyone in my family to ride it and at least pretend to enjoy it. Sorry this is so long, but I had to share this with my fellow Spaceship Earth fans.
Last February it was just my husband and I at Disney, he had never been to Epcot and all he wanted to ride was Mission Space. He had heard so much about it being a great thrill ride, people get really sick, they have barf bags on the ride, etc, etc. That was his "must ride", and he had no idea about what Spaceship Earth entailed. I of course, being the Disney expert of the family, knew that Spaceship Earth and Mission Space have about 180 degrees of difference.
We arrived at Epcot after dark, there was no line to ride Spaceship Earth, so I urged my husband up the ramp. We entered the dome and we waved onto the moving platform into the ride vehicle. I didn't give it a second thought, but my husband was anxiously wanting to know where the seatbelt and restraints were. As we started to move forward into the darkness, he reached over and grabbed my hand. How sweet, I thought. He leaned in and asked my in a slightly nervous tone of voice, where the heck the barf bags wereand how we were supposed to stay in the vehicle. It was at that moment that I put two and two together. (His revelation came just half a minute later.)
Then the calm and soothing voice started to speak from the headrests, I can't recall the exact words, but it was something about the journey of humans in the quest for communication. Then we began to move towards the beautifully done scenes. It was at that moment that my husband loudly and indignantly protested, "HEY, THIS ISN'T MISSION SPACE!!" much to the amusement of his wife and the people in front of us AND behind us.
Needless to say, he was a bit ticked off that I hadn't warned him about the quote, "history lesson on wheels ride" beforehand. (I happen to have a BA in History, so I find any history lesson interesting, especially those on wheels.)
He did eventually end up on Mission Space, but that is another story.
After all was said and done, we had a good laugh about his "historical ride"!
