Space related snacks/treats

Anyone have any recipes for space related snacks or desserts? I'm helping out with Vacation Bible School and there's a space theme. Can someone help me out with any ideas?? I'd really appreciate it!

Use a star shaped cookie cutter to cut out sandwiches or cheese. Or make star shaped cookies.:rotfl:
 
Rice Krispy treats done to look like space rocks. Add some food coloring to turn them gray.

I did this last year for my kids Space Program. I looked for a moon cookie cutter as well but could not find it. I made star shaped sugar cookies with stardust (sprinkles), everyone loved them. :thumbsup2

Here is the real thing!! The ice cream is really good!!! You can buy it at observatories and space museums too. You can Google for other sites that carry this food too if you want to buy individual servings and divide them up among the kids!

Make pudding & put it snack size baggies. Cut a corner & have the kids suck the pudding out of the bag. Sounds gross, but they'll love it!
 
Unfortunately we can't afford to order the real thing, we would need enough for at least 100 kids. I wish we could though!

"moon rocks" snack: This is really "Rice Krispie Treats" which kinda' resemble moon rocks or the moon. Here's the very simple familiar recipe:
You need: 6 cups of Rice Krispies (an off-brand will also work though), 2 cups of miniature marshmallows, 1 & 1/2 tablespoons of butter or margarine, plus butter or margarine for greasing the pan.
Procedure: First, grease a 10 x 13" pan. Melt the marshmallows and butter together in a microwave oven for 2 minutes. Remove it from the oven, stir well, and then return it to the microwave for another 30-40 seconds. (In the meantime, get the Rice Krispies close at hand.) Remove the marshmallow mixture from the microwave and stir again, and then immediately add the Rice Krispies, stirring until the cereal is thoroughly coated. Pour the mixture into the pan and smooth it out (pat the top down flat with the back of a buttered spoon). Keep the "treats" in a cool place for at least 1 hour, and then cut them into squares with a buttered knife.


Moon Balls

Ingredients: 2 C. Peanut butter, 1 1/3 C. Honey, 2 C. Raisins 2 C. Dry milk, 3 1/2 C. Graham cracker crumbs (keep 1/2 c. separate)

Mix dry milk, raisins, and 3 c. graham cracker crumbs
Add honey and peanut butter, mix will (hands do best)
Roll into small balls
Place remaining 1/2 c. of graham cracker crumbs in a large baggie Place several balls at a time into the baggie and shake, then place on a
Cookie sheet.
Chill then eat.



Banana Spaceship

Materials needed: half banana per child, (sliced length and width), 2-1/4 slices of pineapple, marshmallow fluff, a dark blue paper/plastic plate, spoon

Each child lays banana on plate. Then she places the 2-1/4 slices of pineapple on each side of the banana (representing the wings). Add a spoonful of marshmallow fluff at the bottom (for smoke). Count down 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and eat!
 
Food with water still in it is heavier and therefore adds more weight, requiring more fuel (very expensive). So, traditionally, a lot of astronaut food has been dehydrated. You can get a case (42 rolls) of Fruit by the Foot from Costco for about $10. I also think that cookies cut with a star-shaped cookie cutter are a good and reasonably-priced treat. Caprisun is probably packaged fairly similarly to astronaut drinks.... just call them "hydration packs". Pepperoni pizza looks like a moon or planet with craters... call it "Planetary Pizza".
