Kinda random, maybe odd question, but the last time I was at WDW, the line for Space Mountain didn't wind around in the queue area like it had in the past, but rather you went through a back hallway that had no theming whatsoever, just a blank hallway -- which seemed a little weird to me.

So maybe it's two questions.
1. Is it still like this?
2. What is the purpose of their changing the queue?

TIA!

1. Yes.
2. No idea.

I've always went behind the wall during the queue. It's still always had some winding in the queue but at least for 5+ years I've never experienced not going behind the wall

The first 10+ years I rode it, we never once went into a hallway.
Only in the last few visits do I remember going down the hallway at the back.

I don't remember what year this was I am drawing a blank but I thought there was space themeing to it I know it was after 2004 but was not recent either

I agree with a previous poster. I've always done the back wall when I am directed to the left, but never when directed to the right side. I wonder if it has to do with the switch-back rows for stand by line. They need an even number to be facing back toward the center at the junction of FP and standby. If there was an odd number of rows, I think the combined final row would be inside the main hall instead of the back corridor. On the other side, I've never seen the switch-backs used since FP.

Also, I'm weird and I've thought way too much about this...

Let's think back when did the old fast pass system start

Right side is FP side everytime I've gone on it in the past few years. With the FP line being short I don't think they need to open up that extended portion of the queue, thus leaving the right side to not go behind a back wall over there

Sometimes FP line gets long ( like after the ride breaks down) and they will open the switch back up when this happens.

They will direct you either right or left even in the FP line. It is hard for me to get out of the car when I load on the left so I always have to request right even in FP line.
