Space Mountain Question

Is the line for Space Mountain still crazy and are FPs running out early? Is it still Star Wars? Should we get that FP first thing?

Haven't been since Jan and I'm trying to plan rides for my niece's 5th birthday- we are going just one day. She requested Space Mountain and also wants to do some Fantasyland rides. (Not trying for Peter Pan) Before, Space FPs ran out quickly in the morning. So should we get FPs for it first thing and then head over to do some Fantasyland rides? And, oh yeah, including Matterhorn. We are going June 6th.

I do t think they are going as fast , the priority is Frozen at DCA first it seems. You should be okay as it is still Hyperspace Mountain and this weekend we easily for 1pm FP on Saturday around 10am.

I would still try for Peter Pan , if you go early enough it's sooo much better than doing it midday and the new effects are great.

The Hyperspace Mountain overlay is still in place; Disney has not yet announced an end date for the overlay. As Astylla said, the FPs do seem to be lasting longer into the day now, but they still seem to be the first attraction to run out of FPs in DL. I would check the Disneyland App for the FP return times on the day you're there and when it gets close to the time you want, head over (the app seems to be off by about 15 minutes, as in, it'll say FPs for 10:30 am to 11:30 am, but the machines are distributing 10:45 am to 11:45 am). In terms of the standby line, yes, that can still be very long. I saw wait times of 80 minutes or more this weekend during the mid-afternoon. So I would definitely try to get a FP if at all possible (the Space queue is miserable - not a lot of shade and very hot!).

Personally, if you're not interested in Peter Pan, I would start with Matterhorn. That does not have FP and its line can get long during the day (they do have a single rider line). I would probably go to Matterhorn first, then Alice (that one also seems to get pretty busy), then go get the Space FPs and then return to do the rest of Fantasyland.

No rush for Space Mountain but the can run out later afternoon/early evening on busy days.

We just returned (Memorial Day weekend) and we had a hard time getting on Hyperspace Mountain.

Day #1 - Saturday
arrived around Noon and the FP return time was 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Wait was about 45 minutes

Matterhorn wait was 45+ minutes

Day #2 - Sunday
arrived around 9:30 AM and was able to get an 11:30 to 12:30 FP
Wait was 50 minutes

Matterhorn wait was 5+ minutes

Day #3 Monday
Stopped by around 10 AM
FP return was 3:30 to 4:30
Wait was about 45 minutes

Matterhorn wait was about 20-30 minutes

Get there early for best options!

My first priority on Saturday was Frozen Fastpasses. So I stayed in DCA until the show started at 2:35pm; after the show I headed to DL to eat a late lunch and went to grab FP for Hyperspace around 4pm. They were out for the day. Super bummed since I haven't been able to ride it since the SW overlay and probably won't be back before they take it away (unless it returns after ghost galaxy). I headed over to Matterhorn for the single rider line and got on in 5 min.
So I would say try and get your FP for Space before noon and you should be fine.

eta: Standby was 65 min. which would have been fine had I been by myself and arrived late to the parks. But after being there since 8am, I couldn't manage an hour wait. For a weekend, that's not horrible compared to 85-90 min. I've seen on the app.

We were there on Sunday. We got our fastpasses for Frozen, then headed over to Disneyland. Around 9am or so, Space Mountain was a 35 minute queue. So, we stood in line for that (there was a 5-minute delay or less), and after that got fastpasses for Star Tours (return was 11:05-12:05). We then went on Big Thunder - queue was 10 minutes, Haunted Mansion - queue was 5 minutes. We then had lunch and then went on Star Tours, did some shopping, and went to California Adventure to get in line for Frozen.

If you want to see Frozen, get those fastpasses & Radiator Springs first thing in the morning, then head to Disneyland, get fastpasses at Star Tours, and then get in line for Hyperspace Mountain. If you go early, the line wait is doable. Then hit some of the other headliners that you want to go on.

I highly recommend you download the official DL app! It shows current wait times, and you can see what the fastpass return times are. For example, its 8:45 am, park has been open 45 minutes. Wait time shows 35 min, and fastpass return times are 10:05-11:05.

Personally, I send a runner to get fastpasses while the others in your party go ride something in fantasyland. By time they ride something like Snow White the runner could have FP and meet up. About the time you are done with fantasyland your fast passes should be good.

Yes, use the DL app.

Head to Tomorrowland to grab your FP for Hyperspace Mountain, then do Fantasyland & Matterhorn. By the time you return to Tomorrowland you can grab a FP for Star Tours and Buzz Lightyear (It's right next to Star Tours FP distribution - and it's disconnected!) Have fun!

Thank you for all your helpful replies. She is a girl who love her fast rides so no Frozen show to worry about this time and I don't think she is tall enough for RSR. Unfortunately, no one in our group has a smart phone to make use of the app! I guess we are all a bunch of cheapskates who don't want to spend the money on that. I have an itouch which does many of the same things as the phone except I need wifi which DLR doesn't have yet for some reason. I was fine at WDW with it, but can't use it at DLR unless I walk in to the Grand.
Figment, that sounds like a good plan. Soarin is also one she wanted to do so hopefully the FPs there won't go too late in the night before we get over there.

If she can ride Space Mountain she can ride RSR. Both are 40" requirements, as are most of the rides with requirements. Matterhorn, GRR, and Goofy are 42", Indy is 46", and Screamin' is 48".

ETA
There are rides with shorter than 40" requirements like Mater's and Luigi's, but I'm assuming your daughter is at least 40" since you're planning on riding Space Mountain.

You can still get wait times and FP return times if you don't have a smartphone. You would just need to call "Ask Otto" at (714) 520-7090. I don't have a smart phone either so I call it a lot when I'm there :)

RSR has the same height requirement as Space Mountain, 40".
She is about 43 inches. I was thinking RSR was 46.

I didn't know they still had that. I remember it from a few years ago but never used it. I'll have to keep it in mind for this trip.

Wow, it's been a long time since I've been on the DIS boards. I had to log in to say that she's been on RSR. It's 40". Matterhorn is 42 and she was barely tall enough for it last time. She's grown since then so it should be fine now.

It's even worse on grad nights, so plan accordingly. My friend and I ended up pulling two fast passes for Space yesterday; one not long after rope drop for 9:30 or so, the second at noon for 5:55pm. The app showed 150 minute waits at one point, and it was at 120 when after we were done. I'd definitely grab passes for your first ride of the day if it's a must do for your niece, especially if you want a second opportunity to ride later in the day.
