Is space mountain still a roller coaster? I was looking at the website and now it looks more like a movie with a moving car, like Back to the Future? Anyone know? Thanks!

lol, where did you get that from? Back to the future is kinda like Soaring over California.

Still a roller coaster, although I think I am in the minority when I say I don't care for the temporary "rockin" makeover it has. I prefer the space trip music and theme better. I think there are a few things that make it hard for me to enjoy the new Chili Peppers make-over. One - the theme is space trip all through the cue, and then changes to Chili Peppers on the space stage as the car leaves the loading area. They could have changed some of the video displays in the cue and make the makeover a better fit. Two - the makeover adds a lot of light to the ride allowing riders to see quite a bit of the inside of the building and the track, as well as being able to see other cars that are on the ride at the same time. It is more fun in the dark.

Again... these are just my opinions. It is still a fun roller coaster, but this trip it was a one time ride. We didn't feel compelled to ride it multiple times (even the teen in the group agreed, and he likes the song).

Wow if they took out the roller coaster part I'm sure a lot of people would be pretty disappointed. I didn't care for the new rock it version though I hate that you can see everything it takes away from the space feeling.

Did they get new music since christmas? I was there at Christmas time and I enjoyed the ride very much, do they change the setting abit after christmas or something? It was all stars when I was there and I couldnt see the track or anything...

I agree with you. I rode Space for the first time since they've added to new music. I was excited because I really do like Red Hot's new album Stadium Arcadium. As it turns out, Red Hot re-recorded an older song which was okay, but I was expecting one of their original songs to be played during the ride. Also, I don't like the fact that you can see the tracks.

Space and california screamin are both in rock it mountain versions through the end of April they started this in early January after the holiday. They have added red hot chili peppers songs for the music and changed the lighting in space mountain. All the strobe lights and special effects make it so you can see the track and everything around it very easily throughout the entire ride!

I know what you are talking about, it looks the same way on the Disneyland planning DVD. But it is still a rollar coaster (and one of my favorites)! I think it's just a way to show the vehicles in the "space atmosphere" since they cannot possibly show the actual ride like they can on California Screamin...it's too dark in there.

As for the new rockin music, I'll vote on that after our next trip (11 more days!):cool1:

Oh that sounds really crappy, the reason we loved the ride so much was because you couldn't see the track and the music was pretty cool. That's disappointing to hear but hopefully by next november it will be back to the holiday music track because thats when I'm going again!

I'm not sure where on the website you're looking but Space Mountain will never not be a roller coaster.

the day my ride isnt a roller coaster is the day i quit lol. Just got off right now and have confirmed that it is still a roller coaster. lol and as for the changes not to much is for sure yet but i hear that itll be seasonal like HMH or IASMH with the lighting effects and music getting better every year

I love the new Rock It additions to Space Mountain! We rode it several times when we were there in January and thought it was great!
