From checking out the pictures of the Space Mountain vehicles, it looks like a horrible load for someone with leg problems.

Could someone plese describe the loading situation? Is there a foot well at all, or is the seat pretty close to flat on the floor?

Is there an alternate ride vehicle, or a way to board the ride without messing up the usual ride interval?

Suggestions, please! We'll be there on THURSDAY and I'd love to have the details beforehand to prevent disappointments.

I don't find getting in the problem....it's trying to get me out! :rotfl:
I wheel my chair right up to the "space craft" and throw myself in, a CM then takes the chair to the unloading area.
To get me out I push up on the chair in front of me and my husband lifts me on to the side, then its just a quick push and pull on to my chair!!!!!
The CM's don't mind the wait, just make sure that if you are with others that they must wait behind the yellow line while they are waiting for you.
Then the fun is on the way out, I like to wait for everyone to be clear and then I let my chair run down the slope. :rolleyes1 (only when it's quite though).

Is the lap bar part stable, or does it move?

It helps to have grab points figured out before arriving at the ride vehicle!

Oh, and I agree--it looks like getting OUT will be the problem! :rotfl:

Yes, I found getting out is a problem. There's no alternative vehicle :( I just 'scrambled' out as quickly as possible, but my legs are weak. I don't suppose you can go to DisneyLAND instead? They've got a "rocket" they can take off-line for loading and unloading, so it doesn't interfere with the departure interval at all :)

Anyway, because of some entry problems I had, the Attraction Lead was escorting me and told me not to worry about holding up the ride.
