So, I have never been on this, because the last time I went to DLR at Halloween-time was 2004.

I have seen youtube videos of this and seen warnings that it's kind of scary. Is it REALLY that scary? It does seem kind of spooky, like I might want to close my eyes, but I dont want my 7.5 year old to be terrified from it...

What say you, Disney friends?

I don't think it's scary at all, in fact I think it's quite cheesy and you go through the ride so fast (it is a roller coaster, after all) that you blow by the ghost scenes without noticing them much.
However; I'm a 42 YO adult. I could see where kids with far more active imaginations could potentially be frightened by it.

I'm don't have any kids myself, but I have seen a lot of people on here say their kids were freaked out by it and never wanted to go again. I like it, but I like scary.

My son was 7.5 when we went last year. He had never been on Space Mountain before, so he had no idea what to expect. The ride itself scared him more than the ghost overlay. Lol He enjoyed it though and Space Mountain is now one of his favorite rides.

I think it will depend on if your son is easily afraid of ghosts. If he enjoys Tower of Terror and Haunted Mansion, then I think he would love Ghost Galaxy.

Hmmm. Maybe I will have her watch a couple of youtube videos of it to gauge her response to it. Granted, I am sure in person, it's a whole lot freakier, but at least this could give her the gist of it to see if she even wants to do it.

She's been on Space Mountain (at WDW when she was 5), so she knows that it's fast and really liked that aspect. Tower of Terror freaked her out, but not in a scary way, mostly just the FALLING. And she ADORES Haunted Mansion. The only ride I have ever seen her freak out on was Expedition Everest.

But we are also going to take her to Magic Mountain during this trip and she's super stoked to ride all of the coasters there.

She sounds like a thrill jukie like my oldest! Lol If ghost stuff doesn't bother her, I think she will enjoy it. Too us, it was more cheesy like Tyggress said. Have a great trip!

My son's been riding Space Mountain since right around the time he turned 4 and was tall enough to ride. He's a dare-devil and has never been scared of any Disneyland rides. When he was 6, he INSISTED he was ready to ride Ghost Galaxy. We showed him pics and video and asked him over and over again if he was absolutely sure. He said he was.

Well... We hop on and he's screaming and crying from the moment the first scary image pops up to the time we deboard at the end of the ride. He kept saying how he couldn't BELIEVE we would let him get on that ride :lmao:Like it had been our idea!:confused3

But flash forward to one year later, he decided to try it again...and he LOVED it!

Moral of the story: Yes, Ghost Galaxy has the potential to scare the living daylights off of young kids...even the ones who normally love Space Mountain. Just prepare them and make sure they are really game. On the bright side, if they hate it, they never have to ride it again if they don't want to :thumbsup2

DS was 8 when we took him on SM-GG.

At the end of the ride, all you could hear was this little voice emphatically saying "Never, ever, ever, EVER again!"

The regular Space Mountain is his favourite ride but nothing will get him to ride GG again.

Oh man! And the dirty looks we got from a few people for being "those" parents leaving scary ride with a hysterical child :rolleyes1

Been there. My DD was crying when she got off of Expedition Everest and proceeded to tell everyone in line: "That was NOT fun! NOT FUN!!!" I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing.

Just know that the two Space Mountains are pretty much different rides. Same concept, flying through space, but different. (and you might never want to ride the WDW version ever again)

GG bugged my son, who was, hmm, 9? at the time. Maybe 8. Did not help matters that I went to comfort him (he and DH were sitting side by side and I was behind them) and put my hand forward and on the back of his shoulder at JUST the moment the space demon reached its skeletal hand out from the sky at us. Horrible awful timing (I hadn't been on it!).

I don't find it scary, but I could see how kids do. I don't really care for it much and prefer the regular version. She'd probably be fine, but I would let her know that it has scary images. We did take our DD at 4.5 on Ghost Galaxy. She had been on Space Mountain before and finds the ride to be fast and a bit scary, but likes it anyway. She didn't complain about the images, and seemed to think it was just as scary as before.

My entire family hates Ghost Galaxy. It actually soured us on visiting DLR during Halloween time because that ride is normally our favorite in the park. I disagree that the images are "cheesy." They are realistic and scary. They are not cartoon ghost images or the transparent ghosts of Haunted Mansion. My kids (ages 7 and 9) were scared, and I was plain disappointed that they took away the joy of this ride.

I agree here. These are not fun whimsical ghosts. In fact I don't think they look like ghosts at all. More like aliens or some kind of creepy monster.

I did clarify that while I found them cheesy, I am also 42 years old; and that kids may find them scary.

My son has been riding GG since he was young (6 maybe?) and it has never bothered him, in fact, he likes it. It's funny because usually he is not a fan of things with ghosts or scary type things. I could definitely see how it could frighten a young child. My problem with GG is that the sound seems to be waaay louder than regular SM. I remember the first time we rode it and I was almost in tears when we got off of the ride because the sound effects were SO LOUD! I now stuff a little kleenex in my ears before we ride it or I skip it and let my DH and DS have a little "boy" time together.

OK just want to say thank you for posting this. My son (8) is excited to go on this ride. He is the same kid who cant set foot in Spirit Halloween Superstore because it scares him so bad. I am going to have him watch it on Youtube first and see if he wants to go on it still.
