Space Mountain closed

I have been reading that space mountain is closing for a refurb and when it is open that big thunder mountain will be closing for a refurb.
I go in January and was wondering if anyone knew which was closed and which would be open or both.

Someone may have more definitive info for you but from what I understand, the park management are pushing for SM to be back open for the busy Christmas period - don't know if that means it will.

Don't know about BTMR but I'd be stunned if they had both closed at the same time - can you imagine the queue for Splash?!?

According to Allears Space Mountain is closed from April 19th to November 21st 2009. No news yet on BTMRR.

Splash has been closed the last two years that we have been in January, I am hoping that it'snot closed this year, as well as SM and BTMRR.

That won't happen they are totally different coasters made by different manufacturers. If they did manage to change it so it is more like Disneyland that would be better and more of a possibility. Although Disneyland's version is more of a family coaster than DLRP's one I really enjoyed it, WDW's one I can take or leave.

Oh not sure I have done the Disneyland one, how is it different to WDW?

Disneyland is just a single track as opposed to WDW's double. At WDW you sit bob sledge style one behind the other, at Disneyland you sit 2 people next to oneanother with an individual lap bar. When they re did the track at Disneyland a while ago the ride became a lot smoother and the effects on it are really good. For me at Disneyland it was the effects on it that made it a really good ride. The new version at Disneyland is made by the same manufacturer as the version at DLRP (also the same company who did the coaster for Expedition Everest.)

I love Space Mountain in WDW it is one of my favourites and it will be closed in May/June for us

We tried Space Mountain in DLRP and I really hated it. It threw my head from side to side and hit my ears kept hitting sides of the restraints that you pull down from above your head.

I wouldn't bank on any major changes - from everything I have heard they have scaled back the orginal plans due to budget cuts.

I am hoping its true as I Space just as it is. I may be the only one but it is a classic. I would just like them to sort out its reliablility and I would be very happy!

Well now that's just wrong.

We love SM (one of my best memories from last year's trip was hearing DS laughing through the whole ride) and will miss riding it this year.

Sadly yes. I love taking a ride to take a load off! It is scheduled to open around the end of August again.

Weirdly this is one of our favourite things to do at MK, it's so relaxing and I know many people bypass it, we were really disappointed a few months ago when we found out it was going to be closed.
We hardly ever ride SM any more, we went through on TTA and SM had broken down and the lights were on and after seeing what it looked like in the light it really put us off and made us feel a little
