Space Mountain, Big Thunder Railroad for 6 year old? Advice please : )

This is all very helpful! Can anyone tell me what the seating arrangement is for Space Mountain and Matterhorn? I think this will be a big factor in determining whether my DS5 rides each of those rides. If he can sit NEXT to me either side to side or front to back then it will probably be fine. But, if they are front to back but physically separate, then we'd probably have a problem. You know what I mean??? :)

Space Mountain is two side-by-side, but there are two separate seats (not just one bench), but they are very close together. For Matterhorn you can choose to ride alone or together with your son in between your legs in front of you. That's the current configuration. They are supposed to eventually get new vehicles for Matterhorn but I don't know when that is.

My son was just at 40" at 3 years 8 months. He loved BTMRR, Space, and his favorite was Splash (we went on it 4 times in a row during fantasmic one night). He went on TOT twice, but after having a bad dream that night he decided not to go on it again the rest of the trip. We just went this last March (he was 5 years 8 months). Just barely 48" now and he loved Indy and Screamin'. But much to my surprise when we went to Magic Mountain for the first time he went on all the roller coasters he could (48" restrictions) with his hands up the whole time smiling and laughing, while I quietly held on for dear life. This included Goliath, Apocalypse (by himself because I couldn't fit, 6'5" 350 lbs), Revolution, Ninja, plus others.
One thing we did to get him ready on both trips was to watch, repeatedly, YouTube video's of the rides.
But then on other hand his older cousin that is 8 won't go on go on any roller coasters, including Gadgets Go Coaster.

Okay I am back from Disneyland and wanted to let everyone know that my 6 year old absolutely loved, loved, loved Space Mountain and BTMRR! He rode them each 3 times and he even got on California Screaming, but he did not really like that a bit too scary for him. Thanks for all the great advice, I did start him out on BTMRR first and since he loved it he wanted to try the Space Mountain ride. We had a blast! : )
:dance3:

So happy!!!

Looks like my 5 yo peanut is going to break 40 inches before we go in a month, so we are looking forward to giving these rides a try with her!

My son (6 yo) has been doing BTMM for a couple years now and loves it. He first did Space Mountain last October (when he was almost 6) and was scared because it was Ghost Galaxy. He also doesn't care too much for Matterhorn, but loves Haunted Mansion.
My 3 year old daughter loves Matterhorn and will be doing BTMM (which I know she will love) next week. We're not sure how she would do on Space Mountain--so we probably will try it once or see how she is. She would love Splash Mountain--but she just missed the height mark last October and now it is closed. Oh well, there is always next year.:rotfl:

we took my 5 year old daughter on both of them (she only likes rides that are not scary but kind of likes things that go a little fast) she was fine on them she didn't freak out but she also didn't really enoy them that much. They are kind of dark and jerky. My feelings are that it if they don't at least try them, they won't ever know if they like them or not.

She was really afraid of Pirates the first time but at the end of the trip she wanted to go back and now she loves it!
