It looks like the shuttle is scheduled to launch the week we are there. We had already planned to make a trip to KSC. I know the shuttle can be delayed but will the crowds be excessive that week and does it make a difference if we go to KSC before or after the launch? Also, should we plan to go first thing when they open and then what time would we be back to WDW? I'm wondering if I should plan on it being completely a non park day. Any tips or a point in the right direction for would be appreciated. Thanks!

As of yesterday' paper the launch is scheduled for July 13 with of a window of July 13-31. Right now launch time is 3:51 PM. I would expect the crowds and taffic around the area to be heavy. The official launch viewing areas are completely sold out.

I don't think you are going to tour KSC that day as fast as you normally could. You may get back to the World in time to do a little night time in the parks, but I would plan for a non-park day.

Are there other places you can view the launch instead of NASA? Can you see it from WDW?? :earseek:

I found spots listed in some of the Florida guide books (lonely planet and frommners)

KSC still has a few tickets left you can purchase online for their alternate location at the Astronaut Hall of Fame. I know the take offs can get delayed so the non transferable non refundable policy had me thinking it wouldn't work for us. After checking it out a little more I found that they come with the full admission package that you use either the day before or day after the launch. The price was about the same list price as the reqular tickets. So I called to verify we could use the tickets before even if it got pushed out meanning we would at least net out what we would have anyways if we were making a day out of going there. I spoke to a gal on the phone who was really nice and she verified we could use and if the launch got pushed outside our trip we could call on the phone and they could convert them into some type of normal admission tickets.
