I have seen a few posts on this, but wanted to share our most recent experience. First week of Oct, wife and I were with another couple who had never been to Space 220. They really wanted to try it. We have been several times. We DO NOT like pre-fixe meals. I understand why Disney has to do it at some of the more popular restaurants, but I avoid them. So, we got in line at Space 220 for the bar at about 11:00 am. We were numbers six, seven, eight and nine in line. The bar seats 10. We might have gotten a bit lucky. I have heard of others who lined up at 10:30. At 11:30 they opened up and we got it right away.
We LOVED this experience. Here's why: 1. Super hard ADR to get, so this solves that problem 2. Much less expensive 3. Grab a few apps and drinks, so you are not full. Like I said, we like to treat EPCOT like a big buffet, getting lots of food in small quantities. 4. You still experience the theming (elevator, space windows, menu, etc) without the financial and time commitment.
We believe a lot of people don't really like this place because it's so hard to get an ADR, it pre-fixe, it's expensive, and the food is a bit of a let down. But when we do the bar, order the slider, cauliflower, and deviled eggs, plus an old fashioned, we leave super happy!
We recommended this strategy to a group of four who went last week. They did it and loved it as well.
Just our thoughts!
