Souvenir budget question

The Disney gift card idea is such a great one! I am definitely going to use it. My little girl will be 8 when we go in October, and I think she will just be thrilled to pieces to have her own "credit card" to use there :) Thanks to everyone for that idea!

I would think maybe $20 per day at the park would be a reasonable amount...Disney is expensive! My daughter likes pins and the marker sets they have and stuff, and since her cousin is going with us, I know there will be a case of "I want the stuff she is getting!"

She also has about $75 she got from relatives for her First Communion that she is saving for the trip. She is better than I am about saving money haha :)

I'm a fan of cash for kids. I pay my son's chore money with singles because I want him to attach a finite quantity to his money. Obviously $1 won't work for the amounts you're talking about but even 5s or 10s would be good. The 3yo might be too young to learn the lesson but the 5yo is old enough. I'm not telling you how to parent (I guess how to "aunt" in this case), but adults have a hard time associating credit card purchases with actual money so you might want to avoid that with the kids. That's just food for thought, please don't read this as judgmental or anything. I know how we can be on the disboards sometimes and that is absolutely not my intent.

But as to your actual question, honestly either amount is fine as long as you talk to mom and dad first. You don't want to appear ostentatious and give the kids more money than the parents do.

When we are planning a trip I usually look at it as an opportunity for my daughter (7) to learn about earning and spending her money. She will already save her birthday/holiday money for Disney, but then in the months leading up to the trip she also has the opportunity to earn disney dollars (not the ones Disney sells, but that's just what we call them). She saves them up and then I deposit her money and get her a disney gift card in the amount that she has saved. She then knows that is the amount she has to spend while we're there. I keep track of how much she has saved and I might chip in a few extra dollars to round out the amount so that she has about $20-$25 per day of our trip. I allow her to choose one thing a day when we are on our way out of the parks, which works for us because if it was up to her she would hit the shops multiple times. Last trip she had about $20 left over and used it to buy a few small souvenirs for friends at home (key chains).
