Southwest ?

We are flying to MCo on Southwest with a connection at BWI. I noticed on their site that we might be able to make an earlier connection. (we will only have carryon bags) Does Southwest allow you to switch connections, provided there is ample time and room to board? Should I try to do this ahead of time.......say when I check in at our home airport? Is there a fee involved?

you are only allowed to catch the earlier connection if you are on a full fare ticket, but go ahead and ask at the gate when you get to your connecting gate. Check the monitors for the gate info. Only once have I been allowed to get on the earlier flight without paying the upgrade fee, and the only reason they let me do it was because my original connection was delayed. Be prepared to wait for your original flights.

Also remember when you get to your connecting city to seek out the kiosks for boarding pass distribution. You will only be given your initial boarding card at your originating airport. If you are flying A-C-B then when you check in at A you will only be giving you a boarding card to C. When you get to C you can either wait for the gate agent to arrive at the gate which is one hour prior to departure or you can check yourselves in C-B with the kiosks. You will not need to pick up your luggage in C nor will you need to leave the secure area to check in with the kiosk. Ask any SWA employee where the nearest kiosk is and you will be told where it is. Waitng for the gate check in could mean the difference between boarding in the first group vs the last group.
