I have a Rapids Reward credit from the old system but the flight I am looking for is not available :"( Do they ever become available? Can I convert this back to points for the new system, and if so how many points would that be? Our trip isn't until August so I am hoping for some luck here!

I don't know about converting to points but I suppose if other RR members cancel or change dates, there could be availability, but I wouldn't count on it.
I'd call swa to see how to convert to points. Before calling, I'd search for your desired flight and see how many points you need for that flight. That way when they say your RR is worth X points, you know if you can do it.

Unless the rules have changed since they first announced them, you cannot convert an award from the old system into points in the new system. You can do it the other way however. If you are a few credits short of the 16 needed for an award, you can convert points into credits. I think the "exchange rate" is 1200 points = 1 credit. Once you convert points into credits, you cannot convert them back.

I have had an experience where the flight I wanted was not available for booking with an award when I tried initially and then weeks later it became available. Not sure why (someone cancelled? they allocated more award seats?) but after booking a different flight I kept checking and eventually I was able to change to the flight I wanted.
