Southwest Rap Rewards for Air Tran?

I know it is possible to transfer Rap Rewards to Air Tran trips. Anyone know the Math of when it is wise to do that vs. paying for Air Tran fares?

I have about 130,000 SW points from the 50,000 credit card promo (times two with wife and I) and then 30K on top of that from promos like charging rentals cards on the CC. If an AirTran fare is $330 round trip, is that smart to pay in Rap Rewards points or in cash?

I just researched the trade value of this about a week ago. From what i understood: Each AirTran flight is 8 credits, which equals 1,200 SW rapid rewards points per credit. So, for a one way flight you are using 9,600 points....it turned out to be better for us to just stick with southwest for the prices of our tickets. (Our flights were under $200 roundtrip tho) YMMV though because of the cost of your ticket. Hope that helps a little. I know I wasn't able to give you a definite yes or no answer to your question.

Aside from the cost of the ticket, think of the other factors involved. AirTran still charges for checked bags. They also charge you if you want to choose your seat ahead of time. And unlike SWA where every seat can be booked using RR points, their credits can only be used on a limited number of seats that are made available for rewards travel.
