Southwest RAC warning for hyphen/space names

Just left from a great trip yesterday. I checked into Southwest myself on my phone 24 hours in advance without any issues. When I went to check my bags at RAC, the woman said there was a system error and Southwest wouldn't let me check my bags and I had to do it at the airport. Upon further discussion, evidently southwest recently had a software upgrade and now any last names that have a space or a hyphen result in a system error.
She said they are working on a fix, but for now, be prepared to truck your bags to the airport if you have a hyphenated last name or a name with a space in it.
At the airport, bag check was easy without any issues, so it seems it's just something in the way the two systems communicate.

I have a hyphenated last name and southwest always runs my name together. Have not had an issue with TSA, but how is it that a system unable to read a hyphen is an "upgrade"?

Southwest has never allowed hyphens. It makes me crazy, but I just put a space between my two last names and don't have a problem.

When I put the space they default to the second half of the name, rather than the first. I hyphenated 35 years ago. And they still don't write software to handle it.

I have a hyphenated first name, as does my sister (first part is the same). So, they removed the hyphen, put the second part of the first name as the middle name (yeah, I know) and then we couldn't check our luggage into the RAC. Friend came with us, we had five pieces of luggage total so we checked the two heaviest under her name and then lugged the other three to the airport ourselves.
