I have tkts on sw for this jan and the fare went down 30 per person. My tkts were (are) int spec. I called sw and got credit for future trav. my prob is they exp 1 yr from orig date of purchase and will expire before I can use them(tix exp 9/27/06 - next trip mid oct 06). Is there anything I can do to get either credit to my charge or an extention for the credit I have?
Thanks so much for any advice,

you sometimes can convince SWA to extend credits an additional 6 months,

while in other instances others have posted here they were able to get $$ back once they have completed their flights....and sometimes even before they fly ....it depends who answers your call at Customer Service

Just looking at your dates......It looks as though you would probabally book your next trip before the credit expires, right? I think that's all you have to do. Then the funds will have been used before the expiration.

This happened to me today. My original tickets were 147/person and today with the internet special, I was able to get them for $84/person. THis left me with a $252 credit. I called their Refund office and asked if I could get the credit billed back to my credit card as I didn't think I'd be able to use the credit before the year was up. She looked at my reservation and said "sure, it will be on your card in 2-3 weeks!" Boy, was I happy! From what I read on another thread, if you have NOT changed your flight day or time, then they will refund to your credit card if you ask. If you made changes to your flying date or time, then I think it's much harder to get the credit card refund. Good Luck. Jo
PS. The Refund Office said they were closed until Sat for your holiday

SW policy states travel must be complete within one year of original purchase date of the ticket which receives the credit. However, I have heard of many cases where SW customer service will extend this for six months. I certainly hope so because I have a $240 credit of which $120 should be used by July and $120 by August. We will be traveling to WDW again in 10/06 and I am planning to talk to SW customer service about using these credits for that trip.

You can very easily sell the credit on ebay to get nearly 100% of value. Not the best option but it gives you some return.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have called twice now trying to get a refund and they won't allow it. They didn't even give me the option to extend the expiration for 6 months as has been previously mentioned. The 2 agents said the exact same thing - (it was a non-refundable ticket, I have until June to use it, if I can't use it, a friend can use it, etc.). It would be nice for Southwest to be consistent!

They certainly aren't consistent with that policy! We got a $500 difference creditied to our credit card rather than having to use the air miles. It was only a couple of months ago, and they did it so easily, like it was an everyday thing. We never expected them to do it, but figured what could it hurt to try. Strange! :confused3

We had no trouble getting an extension. Then we had to travel, pay for our tickets using the SAME cc the original tickets were purchased with. Then upon completion of travel I had to call, and they put our $300 credit back on the credit card.

Little bit of hassle...but whole lotta worth it!
